It seems to be how all cajuns do it too. is there a benefit to it? seems like it would be a whole lot easier dead I was reading through some of the comments on that video and someone (maybe the video's poster) mentioned something about the meat being mushy if not cleaned alive. For what it's worth, it looked like the dude smacked the thing in the head with a hammer but they edited it out. So all the squirming was likely just nerves. I'm guessing they just want to keep them alive up until the moment they clean them, then they club it like a baby seal.

if my fish are alive when I get home that's how they get cleaned.
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I don't care how you clean or cook a bowfin (what we have always called a grinnel) that bastage will taste like s##t. The only way I've ever eaten it was in a pattie and fried. They mixed onions, bell pepper, celery and potatoes and lots of seasoning. It was bad.
It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chews your a$$ all day long.

You damn coonasses will eat a hogs azz, so nothing surprises me.  Gar, grinnel and Jack Crevalle = hell naw Had a pair of Louisiana dwellers yesterday. We caught a jack took a pic threw it back. She says can you eat it? I said no and throw him back. Why not? Not big enough... RInse! Lather! Repeat! 10x! Again, Each time is that one big enough? Nope! @#$%%$#@@!!! How big they gotta be Capt to eat? Don't know...I haven't caught one that big yet! LOL
