I put Apiguard in all my hives today to start a round of varroa treatment. No brood in 7 of 9 hives. The only brood was in the two smallest swarm hives that I got late in the year. Most of them looked good on honey storage. One hive looked pretty light - I even took a super off that one to hopefully get them to store up when the goldenrod blooms. SHB's looked good for the most part. They were there, just not overwhelming in any of the hives.

thumbup Sounds good Wade. I have only seen one hive without brood this year. Strange summer. Some of mine may be going through a brood break now, I haven't checked most of them since I put Apiguard on about a month ago.

I lost one hive as per my FIL.
I had to leave in July for work and won't be back until December. Hopefully I can get by with some Mite-Away strips and prayer.

I am an idiot. I changed out the Apiguard treatment this weekend. The first round apparently went well. All of the gel was gone and I got the second set in the hives. But, I was in a hurry and threw some spacers together to put between the boxes a couple of weeks ago. I inadvertently made them a 1/4 too long. If I was real careful, I could split the difference between the front and back and just get the supers on without a space. Well, I missed it on one hive and left a gap. That dang hive got robbed out over a 2 week period. It was one of my Arkansas packages and they looked good until now. I'm going to try and pour the syrup to them once the storm clears and see how much they can build up for the winter. That was what getting in a hurry will get you....

I hate that Wade. Good thing is, you'll have to do a lot of stupid things to your bees to catch up to me.
