Climb anything but hickories, sycamores, and hard red oaks. I’ve climbed them plenty of times, but prefer poplars, gums, ash, pines, or white oaks. CD.

I usually go over the first limb, however high that ends up being. 18-24 ft usually. Someone’s 30 ish. Just depends on what allows me to see the best
If you want to always win, never play anyone better than you!

ALWAYS
-Tether your top and bottom sections of your stand, it really sucks to be 20ft up a tree with only the top portion of your stand. -Wear your safety harness going up and down the tree -Have a plan for recovery if you fall out/off
If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

Carry a sharp knife & a cell phone in your safety harness pockets if they have pockets. If it doesn't carry the same in a pocket you can easily get to in a bad situation. Let someone know when & where you are climbing & when you plan to leave. Tie off to the tree all the way up & all the way back down. You can't be too safe.

Practice in the yard down low. Practice how to tie the foot to the seat by dropping the foot climber and then trying to retrieve it.Do all this from just a few feet off the ground in the yard.
When you pick a tree, watch for dead limbs in your tree and dead trees and limbs that could be blown on you from close by.
Keep your safety line short as possible.
Attach safety line when you start on the ground and don't release until you are on the ground again.
Don't have your feet in a foot climber where they could get caught or broken if the seat portion falls.
Carry a couple of tree steps so you can screw them in and stand to relieve pressure from your legs if you are left hanging.
Keep your phone,a whistle, tree steps, knife, keys, light, in a zippered compartment so you won't loose them if you do fall.
Always tell someone exactly where you will be and when you will be back.

This. Also look up at the tree, if it looks dead, limbs have been falling off etc pass on it. Don't forget trees get thinner as you go up, so set your base "up" a little so it will not slant downward once you get higher. Practice in your yard before you get out there. That you can experience what you need to have, saw, cellphone and knife on your body, pull rope, extra screw in hook/holder. Get the seat set up too. Last but most important do not use a rope/cable to hold your feet in the base. If you fall you want your feet to separate from the base. You don't want to be hanging upside with broken ankles and cant get free.
