I was blessed again yesterday morning during the Illinois shotgun season to have another opportunity at big 8. I only had a few shooters showing up on camera that were fully mature deer. The 8 shown in this thread is one of them. I also had a stud 10 point that I saw in person while bow hunting in mid October. I have only got a few pictures of him all year so he was being pretty elusive. He was the buck I really wanted to kill but understood the odds were not in my favor of seeing him. The 8 was showing up on camera pretty often and actually got picture of him in the food plot I️ was hunting near just before I killed him. The area I was hunting hot with deer activity. The rut had become full blown during the shotgun season. I literally had bucks running does in every direction the afternoon before and yesterday started out the same way. I passed up a beautiful 10 and 11 pt that were only 3. Both deer will be giants in a few years if they live. The morning activity was steady and shortly after 8:00 I had a 6 pt come out of the timber and enter the crp. He only went a few yards into the crp before he wheeled around and started to stare from the direction he came from. This lasted a few minutes and he continued on his way. I had a feeling another deer was in the strip of timber and it was not a doe. I kept my attention focused on the area and sure enough I started catching glimpses of a deer and antler. He was slowly working his way right to me, he moved in an area I could see which deer it was. I took my time to look him over real good to ensure he was mature and the buck I thought he was. I made the decision to shoot him since I would not be able to return for the 2nd gun season due to work. He worked his way to about 60 yards and offered a good clean broadside shot and I let the little 20ga slug gun eat. The rest is history As I always say blessed beyond more than I deserve. I get extremely lucky from time to time.
