We've used it with little success. Usually the only things that survives the browse pressure is the hemp. We don't have any success planting in the summer though cause we have a high density.

I've tried several of their products and never had any success.

Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Stick with tried and true spring /summer plantings like, corn, soybeans, iron and clay peas (mine and deers favorite), milo, sunflower, sunn hemp, etc, etc.
They work, are inexpensive and easy to grow. Just plant big enough plots or fence them. It ain't rocket surgery

Power plant is a mix of exactly what you described. Soybeans, forage peas, sunflower, and sunn hemp

costs more if it has a picture of a big buck on the bag. Those big buck pictures must be really expensive

This is one situation where BOB seed might make sense for some. You could easily make the same mix by buying all of those seeds individually in their own brown 50 lbs bag…. but not everyone is gonna need 250-350 lbs of seed…. nor are they looking to spend hundreds of dollars either. They may be wanting to plant a couple of acres or so and therefore it may be worth paying a few bucks extra to have all of those seeds premixed. I’m of the school of thought though that if you only have a few acres to plant then you’re better off not even worrying with these kinds of summer crops…..but that’s a whole nuther can of worms.

Ron is right about the extra cost for having a buck pic on the bag.

I was thinking about getting lazy and not mixing seed myself and going with Power Plant since it has the soybeans and cow peas and other stuff premixed.

I am going to plant about 10 acres. I created some open areas with timber cutting, fire and bulldozer and now want to see what the open areas can do with soybeans and iron clay peas.

But I need to get some liming done first.

If I was a wealthy land baron like you, I'd just pay someone else to do it while I sat in the shade and watched while drinking a mint julip

I'm not a fan of BOB mixes, but I had very good success with Power Plant and would not hesitate using it if I ever decided to plant spring/summer plots again.

I wouldn't want to be deprived of my favorite hobby but I think I will add the mint julip part to my planting routine, lol. smile

I have decided to go with Power Plant in half the fields and do a Ron mix in the others and see what happens.

Ron, get ready to do some mixing for me.
I will supply the mint julip. grin

For those who have used it does it actually plant an acre? I had a cabelas gift card and figured easy way not to have to pay out of pocket for seed. So i bought 3 bags

My understanding is that a 50 lb. bag covers 2 acres.

It comes in 25 pound bags and recommended planting is 3/4 to 1 acre per bag. If you broadcast, it will take more. A seed drill can be set to plant approximately 25 pounds per acre. It has: 57% Soybeans, 22% I/C Cowpeas, 11% Sunflower, and 9% Sun Hemp. I mix around 10 pounds of whole feed corn with mine. It is the best summer mix that I know of. We just got 15 bags in today. It is $50.00 per 25 pound bag. ALDEER members can get it for $45.00 per bag. Call me at 256-338-0196 if you want some.
