First off, I really enjoyed reading the no till topics and it just so happens that I have recently been given an old John Deere Van Burnt style Plain Model "B" grain drill. I am planning on bushhogging down my plots, spraying with gly and drilling my seed (as soon as I get the drill fully functional) I'm going to try this on several foodplots but not all of them. Is there any type of seed that I should avoid or that I should definately use, i.e. wheat, rye, oats, turnips, clover, rape, AWP, etc...?

Also I was able to get permission to hunt a new tract (50 acres) that joins some I already hunt. It was thinned for the first time last January. This property has zero roads, or openings. I have been able to find a decent size opening where multiple logging skids converged. I am going to try and plant something there. Now this spot still has pine tops and sticks scattered and is now growing up with dog finnels. I can get a four wheeler to it but thats probably all. My plan is to throw as many sticks as I can out of the area, spray with round up and broadcast seed and fertilizer. What kind of seed should I try to use, does any of that throw and grow, secret spot stuff work? I have always just bought the individual seeds in bags at the coop and made my own mix. I have never planted a spot without using equipment.

I've thrown wheat on bare ground during February to feed turkeys and had it sprout and make a stand.
I think if you get enough rain it will work. Some say Rye is the easiest to grow. I've had that crap come up in my 4 wheeler trailer.

I would go with cereal rye, over wheat. Both will work, but rye is a good soil builder, and it contiues to grow as long as temps are above 35 degrees.
