Blessed w an awesome hunt this morning! 3rd bird or stud that showed up on the day i shot was back in spot he was in few days ago and he had ran other bird off this time - was by himself. He was in the neighbors beautiful hardwoods and i was able to call him to my crappie spot 😀. Blessed to hav this spot - but it mostly pine thickets w fields - a deer lease. Most of my set ups are hard/thick - not turkey woods. We set up on old logging ramp (one of the few open areas) - thick all around it. Worked him for a good while going silent a lot - i gobbled few times at him late - he did not like that - cut me off. Shut up on him to make him hunt me - he skirted my son at 35-40 yards clucking (gob did not see hen - he new something up) - son said he did not hav clean shot. He gobbled again later - finally shut up when we circled on him - could hav seen us. I can call to fields and open roads - most of rest of lease is thick - then on those areas that are open - they gonna expect to see hen standing there. Set up nightmares - i like to make em hunt me - but not in a pine thicket and u cant in a road r field cause it too open
Blessed w great hunt - he came in gun range - just not out in open - great hunt. Boy wants to go back - will gladly take him tomorrow

This theory would be all great if you didn't have hundreds of farmers planting hundreds of acres of corn fields. CORN ISNT MAKING MORE COONS. It may feed them but so do farmers fields. Sets some traps, get some hounds or keep making charts!

Congratulations! Love the story and the determination. Hunt them how you can and never apologize for that. Most of us probably don’t have the drive to stay after them like that. Much respect.

Turkey hunting when they don't gobble is about like a bad dove hunt. You can kill turkey when they don’t gobble. You can’t kill dove if they flying your field… Right but both suck I concur! I hate and don’t deer hunt turkeys. So if they don’t gobble, I am out! I am the same way. If I can’t at least hear a gobble or two, I am out. No patience or confidence to sit and blind call

Ha!! Turtle is definitely not for sale. My father-in-law got that from his father when he was a kid. He gave it to my son probably 10 yrs ago…..my son is now 25, still loves that ole turtle mount. Never heard what led to the turtles early demise.
