7mm-08 Factory Ammo Suggestions - 08/31/23 04:39 PM

Somebody posted up a sale that texasammunition had going on a week or so ago. Was looking at the AccuBonds? Not sure of the weight or mfg.
We've shot 140gr Core Lokt, Federal Premium for years and killed a ton of deer. Gun likes both.

Currently shooting Hornady ELd-X 143gr in wife's 6.5cm Bergara and was thinking of trying the 150 gr. they offer in the 7mm-08.

What's everyone like for their 7-08 that is 139gr up to 150?

Thanks

I’m shooting 140gr. Sierra GameKings. The 140gr. tipped Sierra GameKings would probably good. Going to try them in my 6.5 CM.

I shoot 140 grain Accubonds in my 7-08. I’ve also used 120 grain NBTs with great results, as well. That 120 grain NBT punches WAY above its weight class.

If you reload, 140gr Swift Scirocco. I also like the 140 Fusion. Have some of the 150gr Norma to try this year.

There are no flies on the Norma Whitetail line.

I shoot the 140 gr Winchester ballistic/silver tip when I have my shooting house gun and Hornady 139 gr softpoint in the woods.
I’ve shot the Winchester 140 for years. Honestly there’s so many good bullets out now, any decent 140 gr will work.

At 7-08 velocities the 140 NBT works great. They shoot well in just about every 7-08 I sent them through. I also like the 120gr Barnes as well.

shooting Hornady Lite 120SST in my 7mm-08 Rem. model 7. It appears to like them over the 150 grain stuff. Still wanting to try the 139gr pills. I assume the 20" barrel just don't get the heavier one up to speed.

Length of barrel doesn’t matter near as much as rate of twist.

Slower twists like lighter bullets and faster twists like heavy bullets.

My Model Seven has a 20” barrel. I also load for one with an 18.5” barrel. Both shoot 140 grain Accubonds and Partitions very accurately.

Never had issues with 140 corelokt until they couldn't be found.
140 Nosler accubond have been deadly, but they are now $80+ per box
Bought a bunch of 150 ELDX and Norma during COVID, but have not shot any.

Reloading has its perks. I don’t think I’ve paid over $20/50 for Accubond bullets. I stocked up when I first got started, so I’ll never run out. 😎

I think the 140 grain Accubonds were what a friend had suggested.

Upon further review, the 140 accubond can be found from $40-50
Many swear by the 120 Barnes TTSX

Can’t find any fusion

Most of my 708s like 139 gr Hornady AW

I haven’t been able to get the SST superformance to shoot in any of my guns

My new to me Gallagher Mt. Rifle likes 150ELDX

I've only been able to get my hands on the hornady lite 120gr sst and the norma 150gr stuff. The 120's will shoot into about a 1 @ 100y and the 150's will least say it was about 8" # 100y. I've drop two does DRT with the 120's neck shots. I do want to try the 139 eld's in it. I can build up a load I know this is just with store bought ammo. I have not tried working up a load yet, as I only use it for hunting and the 120's have done there job on the two I've pulled the trigger on.

There is no reason to shoot a bonded bullet or a TT bullet.

140's all day for this round

I used 140 gr Federal Fusions almost exclusively until they got hard to find. Killed tons of deer with them and can only remember having to track one. I bought a few boxes of the Norma Whitetail 150 gr on their Black Friday sale last year. Killed two bucks with them. One dropped in his tracks, the other stumbled downhill for about 30 yds and piled up. The last two shots I took while sighting it in were in the same hole. Will be using those again this year.
