Suppressors?

Suppressors? - 01/20/23 05:51 PM

I am getting ready to put a suppressor on a 300blk out, and was hoping to hear input from some of you that have ones. What brand/model should I be looking at? Certain ones to stay away from? I have looked at them on google and youtube, but hoping to hear some first hand info.

Visit Nichols and handle some of them.

I bought the YHM Resonator R2 after reading a bunch. It’s the new improved version of the Resonator in this test: https://www.silencercentral.com/blog/we-tested-27-rifle-suppressors-heres-what-we-found/
There are a million opinions on what to get. Just read a bunch and decide what you want.

Personally, I didn’t care of it was user serviceable or was the coolest looking one. I’m only using it for hunting. Wont see 500 rounds in its life with me. I was not willing to pay $500 more for one that was a few ounces lighter. I plan to swap to direct thread anyway which will save me 5 ounces over the QD mount. As far as suppression it is supposed to perform as good as any of them from what I read. Many more qualified people than me to comment but that’s what I did. Should have it my hands by next hunting season.

I have a YHM Resonator R2. I've had it for nearly a year. Been nothing but pleased with it.

Suppressors are very simple devices, any one made by a competent machinist is good to go. YHM is probably the best deal for the money. If a lightweight suppressor is important, then spend a little extra and get one made out of fancy alloys.

Are you putting it on a semi auto? Is this just going to be for hunting, or defense too? Direct thread will give you a lighter and more compact set up, but will back off or possibly seize to the barrel after a high volume of shooting. A qd mount is better for this application, but those mounts can get expensive.

There is a universal suppressor mount thread pitch. YHM, silencerco, and few other companies use it. If you go QD, I would get one of those to give you more options on suppressor mounts.

I wouldn't bother with a user serviceable one, unless you would like to shoot 22lr through it. It's added cost, less volume efficient, and more threads that can back off or seize.

We sell a ton of them at Nichols and If it were me id go with griffin just because they have an awesome mounting system. If direct thread I like the rex silentiums

That’s actually where I plan on coming to fill out the paper work, so I’ll get to talk/check those out.

I plan on just using it for hunting right now. More so for hogs on some land I get to hunt, but I know I’ll want to shoot a doe or 2 on my lease with it once I get it going. Not to concerned with weight right now as I don’t plan on it being a tree stand gun.

I just started the process on my first one. I went with a rugged Alaskan 360 due to ability to use it on everything I currently have, and then an 8.6blk if i ever get around to getting one.

As far as supression, durability, and cost go (for a HUNTING suppressor) there’s no dif between user serviceable vs not. Don’t let that sway you, one way or the other….but you CAN shoot rimfire through user serviceable suppressors, and they ‘can’ be lighter for size/weight/suppression, than many mono-core, welded suppressors. Pros and cons to either. Hard use? Yeah, different priorities….but for hunting? … go as light, compact, decently suppressed, most versatile/cost effective you can find. TBAC, Silencer Central, Rugged, etc

Re: Suppressors? - 01/21/23 06:20 PM

I will check out the ones mentioned above, but at this time, it’s the only gun I plan on running it on so user serviceable may not be a big concern either. It will be a semi auto. I guess my biggest desire in it would be the “quietest”. Thanks for the ideas so far. Much easier with an idea rather than just typing it into Google.

Re: Suppressors? - 01/21/23 07:32 PM

For ‘quietest’? Shoot it on something besides a semi auto. It’ll be ‘much more quiet’ on a semi, than without, but not nearly as quiet a a bolt gun or other non semi, all else equal.

What are your running it on?

Re: Suppressors? - 01/22/23 05:06 AM

Multiple calibers. 5.56, 6mm ARC, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7.62x39, .308...it works great on them all.

I got a great deal on QD mounts a year ago...bought up enough that I don't have to swap them out from barrel to barrel..

If weight is not a major concern, I really like my Silencerco Hybrid 46. It has been effective on calibers from .22-250 to .45-70.

Re: Suppressors? - 01/22/23 10:26 PM

Not sure if the Resonator K is on your list, but Silencer Central has it for $324 right now with the QD mount. They do the free trust also. You’d be out the door for $550ish. From what I have seen that is a deal, if it fits what you want. The reviews didn’t indicate that did as good of a job suppressing as a full size. That’s why I went with the R2 ultimately.
