Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/04/12 01:46 PM

I have a safe full of them I plan on giving to the grandkids one day. My wife makes a joke of this by saying she will tell the grandkids she bought them herself if I die early. I usually go to the store around christmas time and buy several hundred dollars worth of these knives every year and just put them away. This is a better investment these days than the stock market! I open the box to make sure the correct kinfe is in it and then wrap it back up for the grandkids to fight over one day.

The reason Case was "left out" is because I just didn't want to include it in the Buck thread.

Two separate threads are fine. I had several Case knives as a kid and my father wore down a black-handled Sodbuster blade.

Case has a great Collector's Club, too, for anyone interested in collecting and meeting other Case collectors:

I have a couple. I had a black handled sod buster one time too. I need to get another. That was a tough folder.

That knife in the pic. is a sho nuff deer cleanin machine. Trouble is the color. Sit it down for a minute in the woods and it's hard to find. Could not bear to loose it and all the memories. Most times I bring the trusty Case yellow handled two blade (don't know the name) but it's also carbon steel. Y'all know, another one that the blade turns black but get's an stays real sharp.

I had a case I found outside my front door in Auburn. Held an edge better than anything I've had before or since. Jumped out of a Cessna over Tuskeegee with it in my pocket and it was gone when I landed. Easy come easy go but I wish I still had it.

I use to collect stag handle and jigged bone case knives. They are all put away except the one in my pocket

I've got a more than a few Case knives. I like the older ones (70s and earlier) the best.

I've got many Case knives dating from the 1970s up until recently. I've never thought of a Case knife thread. This is a good idea. I hope to post pics of some of my better ones later this evening.

I have several. Back when my brother and I were kids he found a case knife in the barn lot after a rain. The barn at that time probably was 75 yrs old. My dad took and cleaned it up and took it somewhere to find out how old it was. I think it was made in the 20's or 30's the blades were worn down from sharpeing. My brother still has it.

How do you tell how old one is?

Can't wait to see the pic's VT. I just got the one in the pic above, and bought a yellow handle one bout three years back. Like the carbon steel blades cause they so easy to sharpen.

I have exactly one. A case Canoe knife. One of my old customers gave it to me. From what I can find out it was made in 1989. Dont really know if it has any value.

Case had a line of pecan wood handle knives for a short while in the mid 90s. I have two in this unusual line, and I really like these.

Some other favorites . . .

1. The common Sod Buster, Jr. The one pictured here was made in 1981 and is somewhat discolored. I've used it for all sorts of work over the years.

2. I like all models made with the classic yellow plastic grips. The yellow handles are my all-time favorite from Case. The one pictured below is called the Slimline Trapper.

3. The darker large one was made in 1976 and came from my grandfather.

4. While I'm not 100% on this, I believe the Zippo knife is made by Case there in Bradford, PA.

Here is a little knife porn for you. I've been collecting all my life and dad way before I was born. These are a few I like.

Very nice, Bar7!

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/14/12 02:55 AM

Vernon Tull I know for a fact I picked up several thousand dollars worth of case knives and guns after the tornado in pc. My Buddy Jamey lived across the street from the gunsmith. It was heartbreaking picking up those knives and pieces of guns. Most of jamey's knives were in a metal box attached to his safe. He had a bag of the old (60's) era Finn with stag handles that got scattered all over creation. Glad to see that your collection survived. I have some more knives I may post later. My dad bought one the other day that is a 1980 buffalo but has the dots for a 1970. It has a letter with it from the case factory that says it is a factory error and there were 600 of them that escaped the factory that way. It was a great find.

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/14/12 03:31 AM

I'm not really a collector but my dad is and he enjoys giving them as gifts. My main regret is that I chose to carry the one he gave me on my wedding day. I lost it while turkey hunting several years ago. I spent about 6 hours retracing my steps that day.

Here are a few others I've gotten over the years.

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/14/12 04:11 AM

I have a "Canoe" style bought three years ago and within a week the blade had turned black with fingerprints.

Never figured out what the deal was with that. I mean, it was almost automatic.

PCP, I never knew the Sodbuster was made with bone handles. I always saw the black plastic handles. That's a nice one you have.

Here is a little more knife porn for tonight. Some of these are very sentimental to me.

Good heavens, Bar7, you've got some very fine pieces there. I'm envious. I love that blue bone handle material. Most of my Case knives are scratched and scarred from use, but yours look new and untarnished.

These are my safe queens. I have several I carry regularly. Here are a few more you might like.

Impressive! I've always loved the shape of those doctor's knives with the left side flat for crushing up pills so that the medicine can be dissolved into liquid.

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/16/12 11:45 AM

I'm wanting a stag handle TrapperLock. Only Case I own is a stag handle Trapper. I believe it's a 1978 model.

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/16/12 05:38 PM

Bar7Mag -- That big wide-body knife you showed with the elephant on the blade . . . doesn't Case call that shape the sunfish design? I used to study pocket knives a lot and used to know all the shape and design names, but I'm rusty these days.
Posted By: biglmbass

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/16/12 06:13 PM

Commonly called a sunfish or elephant toe, VT.

Bar7 those are some fine knifes. My favorite out of all of them is the AU knife.

Y'all, y'all, y'all.

It's like bein in a musium around here, only better. These are Alabama owned! Alabama pass downs! Alabama treasures! Wish I had another pic to post but, just bein an ol'fart livin on SS... I just got the two (both workin machines).

Daddy would be more proud than me if he could look at y'alls collections.

Bar7Mag, that one four pic's up w/ the leather case. That's about the finest lookin set up as I ever seen. Is it a carbon blade?

Appreciate so much the pics.

Ended up getting a 2008 Amber Bone Mini CopperLock today at Ander's Hardware here in Tuscaloosa. The TrapperLock was just too big for pocket totin'. Hoping they'll come out with a Mini TrapperLock in the near future.

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/17/12 01:20 AM

That mini copperlock is my everyday toter. Given to me by my best friend. You are gonna like it shaw. You never even realize it is in your pocket. That knife with the sheath has a ss blade. It is purty.

My dad has been collecting since the 60's and has a nice collection. If you ever get a chance head to double springs to a little hole in the wall called mullicans I think is the name. An old convenience store with a case knife collection that pits smoky mountain knife works to shame. And the best part is they are all for sale.

Re: Case Knife's ? - 02/17/12 06:57 PM

Now y'all have me digging out old Case knives that I haven't looked at in 15 years! Dang . . . like I needed something else to do! I've cleaned up old knives this morning and spent time researching this and that about certain Case models.

I did find out that I spoke incorrectly about my first pic. Those two with wooden handles are not pecan. They are curly maple and were both made in 1989.

I thought that might be the case. I've got one if not two with the same wood scales. One is a senator or Eisenhower pattern pen knife.
