Yes, another scope question

Yes, another scope question - 07/11/17 02:45 AM

Thinking about ordering one for my 6.5 creedmoor. It's German made, and has a 34mm tube, but other sites have it listed has discontinued..

I had one of the older Z5 models ( before the i ). It was really clear but something was weird to me about it. Either the FOV seemed small for what it was or the eye relief was short. It's been so long ago now I can't remember. I really wanted to like it too.

Personally,I wouldn't if for no other reason than it's discontinued. If that's the case and it goes south they may replace it with a different model and no telling what you will get, especially since the value of their new models is greatly inflated. What I mean is that they often give a MSRP value 3 times greater than what they actually sell for, making it look as if you are getting a bargain. I would be concerned that they would replace a scope with the MSRP estimated value.

My question would be how precise is that scope in it's dialing, since you are obviously looking for a long range target type scope. I would recommend something with a solid reputation for repeatable adjustments and durability. Take a look at SWFA SS line and the Nightforce SHV line.

I thought about the 5power SHV, but reticle choice (Only 2) is limited. I have one with the Moar reticle & i hate it for hunting, wish I would have purchased the ihr instead...

I don't know James.I probably wouldn't be hunting with that scope anyway unless I had a huge field and was sitting in a shooting house that I drove my 4 wheeler to.It would be too powerful and too heavy otherwise. If that was the case though,I might save and maybe look for a used Nightforce with illumination. You know that's what you really want anyway.LOL

That's about what I figured, since you were looking at a 5-25. I am definitely going to drive that to the shooting house.

Re: Yes, another scope question - 07/12/17 11:05 PM

I don't have any experience with that exact scope but I hunt with a 5-25x56 scope on my 6.5 Creedmoor a lot. I was worried at first that it would be to much magnification but I love it for hunting. I've killed deer from 10yds to 400yds with it and haven't had a problem doing so. Glass quality, reliable tracking, target style turrets and an illuminated reticle that you can adjust the brightness WAY down and you will have a fine hunting rig.
