Traeger Grill - 12/20/22 03:05 PM
I just got a Traeger pellet grill. I plan to smoke a chicken this week. Any suggestions on what to base it with and temp to smoke it with?

I’m haven’t cooked a whole chicken on mine but have cooked 3 bone in Turkey breasts. My plan was to cook them “low and slow” but the recommendations were to cook at 350°. That’s what I did and they turned out great.

Spatchcock them and they will cook more evenly.

IF you want crispy skin crank up the temp. I like Backyard rub.

I think poultry is better if you start at a low temp of 250-275° and cook to 165° in the thigh. Pull it off the grill and let it rest for 30 minutes under foil wrap. Finish off in a 500° oven for about 5 minutes to crisp the skin.
Carve and serve.

The recipes on the traeger website are usually spot on as far as temp and cook time.
