Anyone got any info on Texas - 12/22/13 08:49 PM

Preferably a place in North TX? We are heading to OK this year and would like to add another state on the list while we are out there. We won't be far from TX so it would be my first choice.

You have a specific price range you shooting for or you flexible on price. I personally don't see you getting a 4 bird hunt for less than $1,200 but I might b wrong. Gonna be a lot of 2 yr olds this yr also after the drought in 2010. Send me ur number and we can talk more

Anyone else got anything? We have a place picked out that looks and sounds pretty good right now. I'm really pumped about the 4 bird limit in tx more than anything. I've always wanted to turkey hunt tx so this has me excited.

tons of advise here. I hunted there many times..with Panhandle Outfitters of North Texas...Mr. Creed akers. Tagged out everytime and filmed a lot there. I even filmed ole Creed on a hunt. On a giant roost.
The Red River is the biggest roost area for Rios in the country I beleieve. We set up on a famous roost and I filmed over 200 birds fly out..50 gobblers. They would split up and all form flocks and go in different directions. Great hunting. heres some info on him. Hes from Quannah Tx.

the last post has his email. I hope hes still open.

Here are some others from that area.

This one is $500 you get your own lodging and food. Good deal:

this one is 700 with lodging and meals:

this is 650 with lodging and meals.

You cant go wrong in the panhandle. It is alot different from the rest of texas. Lots of oat, wheat and peanut fields. A TON of gobblers. Let me know if that helps.

I hunted west texas as well for over 6-7 years and theres alot of good hunting there as well...but I felt North Texas was easier..though we tagged out every year in west texas too. We shot 23 in 3 days there on tv one year. texas is great for rios!
every where is alot of birds and they come a-runnin!

heres more:
These are all inexpensive hunts too.NO REASON to pay alot to turkey hunt texas.

I shot my limit in texas in 2 1/2 days before..easy.

One year My buddy and I filmed a triple...we shot 3 between us In one sitting...I missed the fourth which would of made it a quadruple.
Called in two strutters..shot them at the same time and three other birds came running in and jumoped on them. Dang rios are everywhere there. I was trying to film and shoot at the same time and missed on the second bunch. he got his.I shot a cactus!
We killed every am and every afternoon.

The year we shot 23 it was 6 of us...only one guy didnt get his limit on a 3 day hunt. We filmed every one of the hunts for Tv. That was at Mc Crea outdoors and Kickapoo creek outfitters..Kenny Mc Crea and Stan Deloung in West texas. They were our outfitting partners for our show. Unbelieveable rio hunting there. Good luck!

I hunted not far from the OK line on the Brazos River a couple times - full of birds one year, the next, not so much. That year heard one turkey gobble in 3 days of hunting. My partner never heard a bird the whole trip. Rancher said a few years of very little rain had a big negative impact on bird numbers.

You picked a good year to go in 14.... The hatch was excellent in 12. This past spring I saw as many jakes as I haver seen out there. The reports show that the whole state had a very good hatch in 12.
