Bankhead Bird - 04/01/12 07:40 PM

Got number 3 this morning, I will try to get the pics and details up later. I have to catch a nap before work.

Felt good after a miss a few days ago. That little 20 O/U put it on him.

22 lbs
9 7/8 inch beard
1 1/16 spurs

Long read and fair warning, im not the best at telling a story. Its a little cut up, I gotta go to work.
I think you will get it. grin

Woke up about 600 am this morning in a rush to get to the turkey woods. I didn't really want to get to far from the house cause of work. I met two friends in bankhead that had just gotten off of work.

We walked around for about two hours and havent heard a peep so we decided to go to spot where a few birds had been spotted during deer season. So we just start walking and calling. About 930 after we had walked probably a mile or so down a old rd, I suggest we should sit and listen, plus I was a little tired of just steadily walking.

We sit down not two minutes and hear one gobble a long ways off. We slowly ease down toward the bird that was across a creek. We had to circle around cause it was so open in the woods and had got on the same hill as him.

So we sit down all spread out on the hill side and the bird answers everything thrown at him but will not budge from his spot on the hill. So I made a executive decision and decide to walk away calling. I get 50 or so yards away walking and he cant stand it, gobbling at almost every breathe.

I decide to ease over about 40 more yards and just sit and wait for the slaughter to start. Well a little time goes by and I hear my buddy start calling, cause I decided he was a dead bird walking and it was just a matter of minutes before I hear him flopping I decided not to call.

My buddy cutts loose on a few yelps and that bird thundered loose and was right by me. So I sat tight and let him do the callling as I watched he gobble and go into strutt. Few more minutes went by and he walked out right to me.

I lit his head up with that little 20g o/u and a load of tss. It was over.

Good job B.

The bird you killed this morning and the one I killed Sat were almost identical in size. Glad to see your new 20ga is a killer. I know you are proud of that.

Big Al, it a stoeger condor, youth model. I got it for 275. I thought for that price I could make one heck of a little light weight.

Sorry for the hi-jack but how are you liking the gun?

Re: Bankhead Bird - 04/02/12 11:15 PM

I like it. Here is my thoughts.
Its very light weight, and extremely easy to move around cause its so short.
Its a little short even when sitting against a tree but not to bad that it causes discomfort.
I honestly haven't counted holes for a pattern. I shot some turkey targets with some Nitros and TSS and got the sights on.

I really didn't intend on taking it Sunday morning. I woke up late and had it sitting in the bedroom from when I had shot it and I also had some TSS loads laying on my dresser. So it just seemed right for me considering I woke up at 6.

Man I like that little gun!

Re: Bankhead Bird - 04/03/12 02:24 AM

Sorry for the second post but I was having problems on the phone.

It doesn't have a barrel selector which at first thought I wanted, but decided I ALWAYS shoot the same barrel first in the citori so it shouldn't be a concern.

Its trigger has alot of travel and I don't care for at all, but we aren't talking about a rifle and it doesn't really cause me to shift me aim so it will he fine.

I am very pleased with it overall, it just amazes me. But Casey is right, those little TSS shells make it a whole different kind of animal than any factory load can, even Nitros.

But Nitros do make it a solid 40 yard gun.

Hope that helps anyone that wanted to know. Its not a citori or Beretta o/u but a fine little light weight mean mountain gun.

As small as it is, you could double it for your Stick.

Re: Bankhead Bird - 04/03/12 06:15 PM

Thanks for the report, Brandon.....Do you think it would be a good all around gun (wing shooting, turkeys, rabbit, ect) for a youth?
Posted By: n2deer

Re: Bankhead Bird - 04/03/12 08:30 PM

Possibly for a youth.

There was a young man that owned this before me that used it for a trap gun.
Its been shot, not a closet queen by any means.

If its not going to be shot thousand upon thousand s of rds I imagine it would be great.

I image it is what it is, a low priced gun for general use. That's why I thought it would be fine for turkey hunting. Not alot of rounds compared to wing shooting.

Congrats on the bird and the 20 gauge kill! I'm just now catching up on reading all the kill threads; didn't realize you had developed a 20 gauge tss load.

Re: Bankhead Bird - 04/03/12 11:59 PM

I haven't Steve, it was Hals load.

I wasn't trying to claim that if it sounded that way.
