Turkey Gun search - 04/12/24 08:29 PM

I’m throwing around the idea of trying to trade my Browning Gold Hunter 3 1/2 12 gauge for a 20ga or 410. I’d like to find a 1187 youth 20 but know how hard it is. Haven’t tinkered into the 410 game yet. What are some good patterning semi auto’s out there in 410 and 20ga?

Id look at Franchi in 20 or 28

Retays a good too but the best patterns I’ve seen are out of Franchi

My Franchi Affinity 20 ga has been rock solid. I have punished it shooting 2oz TSS loads for at least 6-7 years and it’s performed flawlessly. And when I say punished, I mean punished. I shoot 20-25 of the 2oz shells a year between hunting and patterning. I shoot an Undertaker 582 through mine and it’s an awesome pattern.

My mossberg sa-20 is really nice. Just got this year no kills yet or opportunities. Not the guns fault!

I built a .410 last year wanting the smallest lightest little single shot I could find but 28 ga is by far my favorite turkey round.

I really like the Mossberg SA line, available in 12ga, 20ga, 28ga, .410)

The Viper G2 and the SA line are essentially the same guns. They were manufactured in the same plant, numbered, stamped with different company names and built in Turkey. The vast majority of parts and internals for both brands are reportedly interchangeable

I know the 3 1/2 is a lot to tote around, are you looking for smaller or lighter weight?

Both. I’m wanting to get either a 410 or 20 in semi auto. Have a some that can shoot my full size 20 but I’m not opposed to getting a youth model for him.. I’d just rather get a semi auto in case I wanted to hunt with it or my wife..

Look at the Weatherby element turkey. It can be had for around 600$ and is a mighty fine semiautomatic gun for the money.

I have a single shot .410 and a 870 20ga with a 21" barrel as well as an extrema 12ga in my turkey gun line up. The .410 is a killer all day long, but if i had to choose between the 3 id have to choose the 870 for the extended range and killing power. I cant think of a scenario of where id ever take the 12ga out of the safe again for a turkey hunt.

There was a link earlier for em at 450$ but they are sold out. I got mine on gunbroker for $500 and it’s a killer

You may consider a 28, Mossberg makes a youth bantam with a 12.5" pull. I totally understand the .410/20 too.

I've got a Winchester SXP Longbeard 20 guage that is a slick little gun and throws a heck of a pattern out to 60 yards with a cheap Primo Tightwad and any TSS load I've ever run through it.

11-87 or 870 Compactor youth 20 gauge are both great options.
