I'm here in the forest. Been sitting at my listening spot about 10 minutes. First time I've been here this week.

As much as it hurts to say it , swing and a miss straight off the roost at 6:30 this morning . Gobbled good and pitched down in range.

^^ that sucks man…been there plenty of times.

I can’t seem to find one that’s not on the property line or off the property on roost this year. He flew down away with hens over the prop line this am.

Sorry duxlayer

I had em pitch down just outside of range a bunch - cant remember if they ever pitched in range

Head 2 gobble few times on across line. But very encouraged i heard 2 separate birds. Clarke never been a constant hold turkeys everyday place. More like a stop by every now and then for a day r 2. More deer woods. I hav made roads wider and added clover field

Had them hammering this morning 3 different birds got my son set up and I backed up and purrred and scratched them within 20 yds of my son and he never took the shot because he said something was in his way, lead bird putted and took the group out of there . Frustrated and trying not to show it

They hammered this morning on my place. Heard 3 got set up within 100 yard of one on the roost. Flew down just out of sight with a hen. Hen stuck with me in a calling battle and he high tailed it towards a green field. Looped around him and got to the field I thought he was in and he was gobbling on his own heading away still. Circled him again to another field he was heading towards. Got there and he had turned back towards the first field I thought he was going to. Never called to him there don’t know why he turned around. So chased him back that way. Set down on him 3 times and he sounded close on the last set up definitely under 100 yds, just never saw him. Had to leave him gobbling at 9. Wish I could’ve stuck with him I probably would’ve killed him, but had to get on the road back to Florida. Really fun way to end my Bama season though. Was in the game and heard 3 different birds and over 50 gobbles.

Re: LFTW - 4/7/24 - 04/07/24 04:54 PM

I’ve lost all sense of how to kill a gobbler…struck one eating bfast this am at camp. I had to leave in 30 min to meet a Realitor with the wife…had none of my stuff on as I had it put up to go. Kaki shirt and black joggers with my camo crocs. I threw a camo jacket on. If I had stayed behind the brush pile in front of camp, I kill him at 10 yards but no I decided after seeing the gobbler go down to the bottom in front to back up and try to call him over the lip like an idiot: of course he hung up and heard him drumming. He then lost interest as I had to.l be aggressive due to time. Two times in two days I mated rookie mistakes.

Tough morning on public this morning. Birds shut up as soon as they hit the ground. Heard someone shoot 2x around 7:30, hope they got him. At least I got a couple miles of hiking in. It was a beautiful morning.

Wife killed one this afternoon on a powerline. Was dry calling every 30 minutes or so and he appeared down the powerline. Looks like beard rot and he had no spurs at all. A crow flew over and cawed and he gobbled, full tall fan. We would have never shot if not for the gobble.

Re: LFTW - 4/7/24 - 04/08/24 01:19 AM

I had a quick hunt this morning. We had to switch places this morning due to someone beating us to the spot. We had to drive around to the other side of the property and by this time it was already 6am. We got out and immediately heard several. The closest one was about 200 yards down a road. We went that direction and sat down and bumped a turkey we didn’t know was there. I went ahead and did some soft yelps and another gobbler pitched down kind of behind us and hard left. I grabbed the gun from my wife since she was sitting to the right and facing the total opposite direction. About a minute later he stepped into the road at 25 yards and I let the TSS fly. He weighed 18.2lbs 11.5in beard 1.25 rt spur and 1in lt spur.
