Going after a bird I heard yesterday. How is it possible to have a frost on the roof of my truck and the thermometer is reading 40?

About time to get out of the truck and start listening. Good luck to all.

Drove to Chambers county this morning. Heard one bird over the property line so far. I think he's past piddling distance so I better just start prospecting back the other way.

Re: LFTW 3/24 - 03/24/19 12:17 PM
Bird has gobbled at least 100 times, but won't come out of the swamp, across the property line. Walks the same route every year
Went to a small piece of public land by the house to listen before season opens and this bird was fired up. Gobbled 100+ times over 30 minutes

There are no turkeys left. They're all gone. Vanished into thin air without a trace. Gone.

Re: LFTW 3/24 - 03/24/19 01:18 PM
And someone explain to me why you would walk a road, steadily blowing your cheap owl hooter that sounds like you're hooting on a kazoo, when real owls are sounding off in 3 different directions, within a couple hundred yards, all on their own every 20 seconds...

Just called up 7 jakes in the hardwoods. It was good to get the blood pumping for a minute I guess.

It should be legal to physically assault those people

Re: LFTW 3/24 - 03/24/19 03:19 PM
Got impatient and decided to move and spooked one coming in silent. Bumped a bunch of hens on the way back to the clown car to get some lunch before heading to the other side of the property to do some prospecting. Just plain ole bad luck today.

Re: LFTW 3/24 - 03/24/19 03:53 PM
Best morning of gobbling I’ve heard in over 3 years. Been fooling with the bird that whipped me yesterday. Watched him breed a hen saw him a couple more times but just couldn’t get a shot. He’s move away a little bit and shut up now. Dang fine morning that had the ok ticker thumping! Congrats to the killers. Gonna take a break but coming back Tuesday night and stay through Sunday.
Went to Barbour county WMA this morning. heard some far off gobbles early on, but nothing after 7:30

Re: LFTW 3/24 - 03/24/19 07:14 PM
Went to first listening position at an undisclosed location. Was deep in the woods by 6:15. Heard one gobble on next property over, figured we'd head that way and try to call him over. On the way to the property line, bumped one off the roost. In the heat of the moment, without a clear look at it, I took a pop shot at it through the trees. Then I realized I shouldn't have done that. Doh!!!!!
Went to other side of property and set up and called every once in a while, then ran out of time and went home.
Live to fight another day.
BOOM

Trying this afternoon hunting again. Only killed one eastern bird in the afternoon in my life so not all that confident. Some birds have been seen here so we’ll see what happens. Sitting in a corner on edge of food plot. So far, only the wind is talking.
Dr. B
Didn't go this morning, but have been 4 times so far this season. Saw 2 hens the first day, had a gobbler responding to calls on the second day, nothing ever since.

So - made it to a spot near the conecuh river in Saco. You could hear for miles and owl hoots echoed forever.....just a perfect morning. 0 gobbles heard so I left SMH.

Silence on my first morning out.
Perry co been quiet all week.
Three gobbled at my place this morning. One good in the tree one once and one was wayyyyy off. Of course we went after the one that gobbled once hoping he did the same thing as last week but never showed up. Finally went to the other bird at 7:45 of course he gobbled 4 times as I stopped to take a dump and never said another word once we got close.
