Your not alone. Just got set up on a plot beside a creek. Gonna give this an hour or so then chase after anything that gobbled. Hoping for # 2

Re: LFTW 3/31 - 03/31/17 07:44 AM

#4 dead. It's still real foggy here and I only heard one. Got set up in good position and answered a gobble with a tree yelp. That seemed to fire him up and he started gobbling more. The fog kept him in the tree longer than normal so I eventually answered another gobble.

I didn't hear him fly down, but he shook the ground with a gobble and was just out of sight. Wasn't but a few more seconds and he was there.

He was at least 3 and maybe older, so there is no doubt there have been mornings that he was uncallable. Today, he was alone and lonely and vulnerable.

A yelp from a Fatal Attraxion Red was the last sound he heard, and it was the only call I used on him. Stony you need a name for this call; doesn't do it justice to just use the color. smile

A beautiful morning in Coffee County but no gobbling.

Where can I get this "Fatal Attraction" mouth call?

You probably can't; I think the company is shut down for turkey season. smile

They are made by wareagle22 on here - Stony Brock. Yekrut makes a call that is very similar. The red call just seems to fit me. Many others prefer the snake tongue style that both of them make.

But honestly, I think any call that can produce a soft yelp would have brought that turkey in. He was just ready.

Congrats PCP! All quiet here this morning. Headed out to do a little shopping right now. I ripped the inside heel out of my snake boots this morning and I need to grab a few supplies for the Florida trip next week.

Re: LFTW 3/31 - 03/31/17 12:49 PM

Heard one on the roost that turned out to be three. Got to close and some hens saw us so they stayed in the tree a while. The all pitched away from our little field and got quiet. Called up a couple hens and sat another 30min without hearin chit so went to check a big field 400yds away and when we got there one gobbled back the direction we were so back we went. Half way there I hooted and he gobbled in the bottom so I figured we best get back to our original spot we had left 8min earlier and set up. I go to ease around the corner and peek in the field just in case before we get there and 50yds from where I had my decoy 10min earlier stands 4 hens and a blown up gobbler. Never could get them to play and didn't have time to mess with the boy in the bottom bc I had to get to work.

Had two talking when some jackwagon slipped up to the property line and did some of the most awful calling I've ever heard.
The birds shut up immediately and my hunt was over.
maybe I'll get #1 before its too late

Re: LFTW 3/31 - 03/31/17 03:19 PM

Been wanting to try an afternoon hunt so I'm gonna set up on a clover plot and hope something comes to the decoys. Gobblers been roosting behind the plot but flies down to the pasture across the line to his hens. Hoping him and the girls will come this way before fly up.

Re: LFTW 3/31 - 03/31/17 04:02 PM

I went to town to get me some lunch and came back to the farm to catch a power nap. I parked where I could watch the pasture just in case I couldn't sleep. Well I couldn't sleep and every 10 to 15 minutes I would check the pasture out. I wasn't there long and I spotted some turkeys. I get the binos on them and there is 13 mature gobblers in one wad. They did not have a single hen with them. I watch them a minute or two and could tell where they was headed.

I high tail it around the south side of pasture and get set up in front of them. A few soft yelps and I have them in a sight. I spot two of the back birds that were to my left and they were closer than the lead birds. Both were within range of my gun so I line up on the closet of the two. Pull the trigger and he jumps up hits the ground flopping and before I could get through this 5 strand barbwire fence he's got his bearings and making tracks. I give chase the best I could but he out ran me. I never got close enough for a follow up shot or I would have took it. I'm mad and sick at the same time. He's got one broke wing for sure so he's toast I'm sure. I looked all over for him but when he hit the timber he vanished.

13 mature birds and I fail to make a clean kill on one of them! mad

Sorry, I know the feeling. That's a pretty long shot for most guns; maybe you didn't hurt him

Yeah my gun can make it after patterning...thought it was around 50 so I shot...he's gonna be fine cause I can't believe I let the bead drift just left...like I was about to bring it back right but just rushed it by a half second...oh well!
