# 1 (no spurs) - 03/29/17 02:26 PM

Finally got on a gobbling bird this morning. Was walking in and saw a black blob in a greenfield i passed and thought uh oh theres a decoy in the field someone poaching cause it was DARK, nope it was a hen, still not sure why she was in the greenfield in the dark. walked up a little ways and one fires off about 200 yards out, i get sat down, cluck a few times he answers, i shut up and put calls down. Few minutes later he gobbles right in front of me I get my gun up and 2 longbeards pop out on the road. This one starts going into full strut and drumming, the other half strut, I figure this ones the boss 645 he dead. Not a single spur on his legs, also beard looks like it may have had beard rot and regrew it amber in the middle. Going back tomorrow to kill his buddy hopefully.

Congrats bud!

Never seen a beard like that, pretty cool.

Also, the only no spur gobbler I've ever killed was right down the road from you.

Congrats on a cool bird. I killed one with a beard like that years ago and a biologist here said he was likely in beginning stages of beard rot and eventually would have broken in that spot. It won't now. smile

Few years ago in Pickens County I killed a bird one morning that had no spurs... went back the following day and killed his running buddy and he didn't have spurs either. I was upset...
