3/30 LFTTW - 03/30/16 05:19 AM
I'm sitting here in the truck sipping on some coffee before I walk in to my spot. I would be so happy just to be able to play the game this morning after a couple of frustrating hunts. There is a boss gobbler in this area and he needs to go! Good luck everybody.

Alarm set for 4pm in stead of 4am. Left house 10 min ago. Got a 40 minute drive. Sky already starting to lighten up. Gonna be late getting there but maybe it'll work out. Got an hour extra to hunt today and I set alarm wrong... Dang it!!

Sitting here in Chelsea. And at 0530 this stupid bird gobbles at some coyotes howling.......of course he is across the land line, that's nothing new here. let's hope he wants to play this morning.

Checking in from Elmore County. Set up on a field with hardwoods on one side and tall pines on the other. Haven't heard anything yet. I know there is a couple gobblers in this area.

Finally acting right.
Heard 6 birds, all gobbled good. First gobble super early, 6:02. Sun seemed to come up earlier today. Clear morning I guess

Pretty quiet morning on Cahaba for me. Heard a gobble way way off and that was it. I really need a good hunt here soon! Off to work.

Re: 3/30 LFTTW - 03/30/16 10:13 AM
Got to place late and when I stepped out of truck to open gate, 2 were gobbling across the road. I parked and walked about 40 yards from the truck. They answered. As I was just standing there, I heard a whooooosh of wings cutting the air right above me. A friggin jake flys right over my head and lands 80 yards in front of me. Within sight of my truck, me, and the road.
I heard 2 or 3 more birds way off but couldn't pin point them. I ended up calling up a jake (same one?) about 90 minutes later. Coulda waxed him easily at 20 yards but just watched him.
Saw some fresh tracks. Found some fresh scratchings. Saw a young gob. Heard some gobbling. I've had worse mornings.
A bunch of birds died today. 3 of my buddies killed this morning.

Congrats Brent and PRB. I had a good morning. Moved to a different spot at 715 and struck one up. He gobbled a couple times about 100-150 yards from me. I set up on him and dang if the next time I called a hen answered me. She crossed down below me and basically cut me off
I sat tight for another hour and a half and never heard another peep. That's turkey hunting!
Congrats to Brent, PRB and all the others who scored today. It was a pretty morning!

Congrats on the kills guys!
I love my Stony copper call. I've lost my striker for it. I need to get another one for it.

I got on a couple of the birds in the same spot I heard a few yesterday. I had them within 150 yards for 3 hours, within 100 for over an hour, but never closer than 70. Heard em gobble probably 300 times, and I have no clue why I didn't end up killing one. Thats turkey hunting I guess. Some days an old smart bird just doesn't feel like dying.
watched two birds die today and got within 75 yards of one for myself. one of the birds I called in today gobbled 207 times. I know most will say BS but it happened. amazing morning in the turkey woods

I believe you. It was unreal this morning. My morning sounds identical to yours except I didn't kill anything and I probably cussed a lot more than you did. Sucks...

I've heard from a half dozen people (including myself) that it was best morning of the year thus far. Hopefully tomorrow is as good

The 2 times I went this week, they could not have gobbled any better. I probably heard 500 gobbles combined in the 2 hunts. Only problem is there still seem to be plenty of hens hanging around with them and the gobblers seem content just hanging with them.

Great morning for listening to birds but I just couldn't seal the deal. Old bird I was after was locked down tight with a group of hens. I managed to get in front of them but they angled just out of range. It was a fun day in the woods regardless.
