Re: LFTT 11-6-14 - 11/06/14 06:40 AM

In about an hour I'm going to head in with the Lone Wolf on my back and see what I can find. Pulling a recon mission on a strip of hardwoods no one has fooled with in years. Depending on how things go I may sit til 3 and come out.

Sitting in an oak flat next to a fresh cutover. Climbed early so I'm a tad damp. Looking like a beautiful morning to be in the woods since the rain has passed.

It's foggy on top of this mountain. It's wet and I can't see very far. I'm going to have to keep my head on a swivel this morning until it clears up a little.

Well crap! I hate to hear that. I'd a shot myself for that one and been so pissed at myself I couldn't hunt. Glad you didn't.

Re: LFTT 11-6-14 - 11/06/14 08:38 AM

Made it a in. Guess I found the right spot. Acorns raining down everywhere. Saw one deer in the spot where I climbrd trot off. While I was putting my stand on the tree two more walked up behind me. grin

Won't be no nannerhead busting in this spot. Bucks only because it's going to be a mother to get him out.

I love them spots like that Shaw. No pressure at all no educated deer. I'm sitting on creek crossing close to a group of white oaks. Got some pictures of deer coming from this direction in the middle of the day. Gonna see what happens.

Had a big coyote come by about fifteen minutes ago but couldn't get a shot on him. No deer yet.

A lot thicker in here than I was expecting. Emmett might have flashbacks from Vietnam if he hunts in here. grin

10 or 12 years ago my brother-in-law drove from Anniston to Roanoke (about 1 hour) on the opening morning of bow season without any arrows. Seems like his case wouldn't close with the quiever attached, so he thought he put them in the back seat, but left them at his house. He drove all the way back home, got the arrows, wound up getting in a tree around 8:00 and shot a mounter 7pt by 8:30. If I remember correctly, I think he was the only person that even saw a deer that morning! It happens to the best of us!

Re: LFTT 11-6-14 - 11/06/14 10:30 AM

Many years ago, my Godfather drove four hours to his lease on opening weekend. Grabbed his rifle (in the case) and headed out to his spot. Removed said rifle and realized he had left home without the bolt, which he had taken out for cleaning. We've got a lot of mileage out of that one. Good luck today guys!

You better get out of there- deer don't like regular white oak acorns.

Had one more big nannerhead come in about 3:45 and stay til about 4:15. Today was one of the more enjoyable all day sits I've ever had.

Re: LFTT 11-6-14 - 11/06/14 08:54 PM

Didn't see a deer today. Off to my old haunt in the morning, if I don't see anything there I may start burning my hunting gear to get rid of the bad luck I seem to be carrying this year.
