Day 5.....
Fixing to head into the same spot again. The wind is still perfect, plus I want to see if I can find that kitty. Good luck to everyone that is lucky enough to hit the woods today.

I made it in the woods today and been covered up in deer since daylight. No shooters though. Sitting a creek bottom/SMZ between a cut over and planted pines. It's raining white oak acorns too. Just had a small buck browse by as I typed. Pumped about the deer movement.

I haven't seen near as many deer this year as usual. I've got pictures, just haven't crossed paths yet.

On the south finger ridge where I shot my 8pt Monday. Emmett and I were going to lay off the area til Sunday, but we brought Ms. Pam with us. Hoping she can get her first bow kill buck. She's in the middle loc-on where Emmett got his 8pt. Emmett is in the north loc-on.

Just settled back in after a quick lunch. Trying a little hidden food plot on a creek with lots of water oaks. Skwerls everywhere! Nice and overcast... ought to be a good sit.

Nothing but squirrels and an old guy walking his dog so far. It's my first time hunting a tract behind a neighborhood that I just picked up, definately a new experience

I have my 8 year old with me so decided to do a little scouting today. The road we walked in on has quite a few tracks so we're sitting on the ground in a makeshift blind.

I got a wild hair and split out of work early. Just got setup overlooking a vernal pool at the base of a steep holler. Believe it's trying to rain

The opening in the center of the pic is where I shot the 8pt Monday morning:
Pic of the stand. I've got to reposition it. Sumbitch is killing my sciatic nerve going to my left leg.

Re: LFTT 11/05/14 - 11/05/14 07:25 PM
Dang! Ended up seeing 5 bucks total and one was a BEAST! He came out to late and just out of range. It was too dark to sling a dreamer, prolly 65-70 yards before he went into a thin set of woods. Had to score in the high 140- low 150s. May have been "Killer" from last year on the slight downhill as far as a rack....damn I was soooo close. Was sitting in a fallen limb. Gotta love ag land deer haha!
Set up, we'll just noticed this massive limb had fallen and these are some of the favorite areas to hunt, much better than a stand because of the natural cover IMHO. Also it was lightly raining which is also my favorite condition to hunt in. Perfect day, get off work and see some good bucks and almost the chance at a monster!

Didn't get to hunt today, but we made a trip to Lynchburg, TN and saw deer all over the place. That stretch of I-24 from 59 to Murfreesboro has some fine looking ag fields.

Re: LFTT 11/05/14 - 11/05/14 08:07 PM
Snuck in a stand right at 4 this pm. Was there maybe 20 mins and spotted a doe to my right at 60 yards she was just wondering around eating. I watched her for about 40 mins and she just wondered off. I sat back in my stand still looking in that direction and here he came. A NICE 10 pointer doing the exact same thing. It was starting to get dark and I watched him all the way. Trying to get him to come closer I hit my grunt twice. I got his attention he came a little closer but still not in range. I hit one more time and here came another buck behind him. He turned and ran that buck off and I literally watched him walk off into the dark. I was in my buddy stand that I use when my daughters go with me. I'm either going to use my climber this weekend or just stay out of there until the youth hunt next weekend. Not sure yet.

Looks like this is the first day everybody got skunked. This rain may last until mid morning tomorrow. As soon as it quits I'm going on a recon mission with my Lone Wolf on my back to a strip of hardwoods no one's hunted in years. These recon missions normally have a way of working out for me. Don't worry Bowfool, on these recon missions I don't have as much chit with me.
