Opening day has been postponed 2 weeks on public land. - 10/08/10 07:38 PM
For those planning to bowhunt on any public land in N'bama opening day...be advised season has been postponed two weeks.
Season will officially open November 1st. The fine if caught is $50,000 minimum and all equipment confiscated.
This is due to the drought and the possibility tha an arrow striking a rock could spark a fire. You don't want that on your conscience. Also bed bugs was a factor.

Went scouting today.Ticks, chiggers, bed bugs. Snakes everywhere. All poisionous ones too. Ran into 3-4 different yellow jacket nests. Saw some shady characters i believe were making meth.Ran into a big pot patch too. All on public land.

I drove from Natchez, MS to Philadelphia, MS, then to Selma and back to Baldwin County over the weekend and the worst of the drought I saw was from Uniontown to Greenville. Dead trees everywhere. They appear to be dead anyway they might have just gone dormant. Leaves were brown, mainly on water oaks and sweet gums. Didn't see a water tupelo that had a leaf on it. Hopefully we'll get sum rain in the next few weeks. It's amazing how many places I saw on the median of the 4 lane highways that were burnt due to people throwing cigs out the window. There was an area in Lowndes county off of CR 7 where several acres were burnt.

I do remember in the late 80s they postponed squirrel season because of the drought and possibility of fire from firearms.
It opened on OCTOBER 10th. I remember cause i was so mad. They put it in the paper like 4 days before opening day.

Ain't no dang fire gonna happen if you shoot a bow or a gun. The fire's gonna happen when the smokers throw their cigarette butts on the ground or try to light their farts while in the stand.

I will be on skyline on friday. What bothers me is the hunters that read your post and take it to heart and dont go because of it. Some people read a post and dont look at it again ( like myself usually ). Not in good taste IMO.

Skyline!!! they changed the buck requirements at Skyline to a minimum of 12points with a min inside spread of 30 inches. You also can only hunt between the hours of 11am and 12:30pm. Does are also a no go.

I'll admit to being bored in the stand before, but never that needy to entertain myself.
