I’m on a 3 way road I can see about 250 yards in each direction. Buddy just had a monster run past him but couldn’t get him to stop.

Monster doe down at 100 yards. That makes two does this draw hunt. Hoping to kill one more this afternoon or tomorrow morning or a Buck to fill the freezer.

Came to a sure fire spot to kill a doe this morning. Got in late due to too many campfire sodas last night and spooked 3 walking in. Probably doomed for the morning. Back after them this evening!

You still in Mississippi? Good luck on a big’n. I’ve seen the “Do it yourself outdoorsman” guy kill a hoss there.

Yep. Draw hunt at Black Prairie. Very sought after draw with only a few people Picked each year. It’s been unreal so far. My buddy has seen that big one 3 times the past few days with no shots. Pretty sure I saw him in a cornfield last night walking out and too dark to get a shot.
Weird thing is, the bucks are all in bachelor groups still.

Re: LFTT 11/4 - 11/04/23 02:21 PM

Had a doe about 50. Wind was light and variable. Must’ve picked up my scent. She was real nervous and eased around behind me never to be seen again

Got a button head keeping a young doe from feeding and a lot of freaking woodpeckers.

I’ve seen 9 so far. Gonna go get the atv at 10 to go clean deer.

I had a first for me happen today. Buddy is about 800 yards from me. He shoots a doe and sees it hunch over but can’t find blood. About 20 minutes later I have some does come through, and the last one doesn’t look right. I throw the scope up, and see what looks like intestine hanging out. His doe walked right to me. I had to freehand the shot but I think I finished her off.

Re: LFTT 11/4 - 11/04/23 09:13 PM

Off to a rough start. Left alittle early to stop and get an oil change and batteries for the rangefinder. Put new batteries in once I stopped and it won’t turn on. Guessing it’s dead for good.

Then step out to unlock the gate and I stepped on a stalk of grass just right and it pierced my shoes and right into my heel. Waiting for it to stop bleeding and headed on down to my tree

While I was typing this, it sounded like a plane was about to land on top of me. Turns out 7 turkeys were gliding in from the top of the hill down the gas line and landed all around me. It’s gonna be an interesting hunt.

I traded in my bow for the rifle this afternoon (opening day of gun season in Zone D)…I’m in a spot where one of our guest hunters saw a bachelor group of bucks last weekend. They stayed out of bow range for him. I’m hoping they have a repeat performance this afternoon, because they shouldn’t be out of range for my rifle!!

Re: LFTT 11/4 - 11/05/23 12:31 AM

My hunt got cut short and I had to climb down early. But, it was for VERY GOOD reason!!! My 6 year old son, Emory, was hunting with my Dad this afternoon and Emory killed his first buck!!! I got out of that stand as fast as I’ve ever climbed and took off towards the truck to go meet them!!

Emory made a 125 yard DRT shot with my Dad’s rifle (he’s never shot that rifle). And with no tripod to hold the gun or earmuffs. We’ve had big hurdles in the past with him not wanting to shoot without earmuffs.

Another special memory!!!

I did Emory “dirty” by making him pose with his little ducky headlamp 🤣🤣🤣

Love it. You do a good job balancing hunting and hunting WITH your son. I enjoy seeing it. Can't wait for my 2 to be old enough to take.

That’s normal. They will be for the next couple of weeks.
