Another recurve question.

Another recurve question. - 11/02/20 12:34 AM

This weekend I got to talking about recurves and remembered I had one stashed away. I’ve never shot it, but I’m thinking it would be fun for me and the boys to get it out and shoot some.

Keep in mind I’ve never even shot a recurve bow.

I’m sure it needs a string, but what else? What kind of arrows?

It says

Deerslayer by Indian Archery, 274-60”, 45lbs

From that can y’all tell me what string I need and arrows?

You can get an endless loop or flemish string made for it..if its a 60in bow youd need about a 56in string. Id guess the brace hieght would be around 7 1/4 to 7 1/2 in. As for the arras...if you was tryin to tune it to hunt with itd require a fair amount of piddlin..but just to plink and play with..id think a 500 spine uncut shaft arra with some 4in feathers would suffice...maybe a 150grn head pf somekind...you aint even gotta have all that...anything would work really just to play. Ill say tho..those were killin old bows back in the day and sell on ebay occasionally. Ive told you all this...but im a novice myself..so.. someone more knowledgeable..may come along and tell me im a dummy..id agree

Depending on your draw length, assuming you will draw around 28", 600 spine carbon or some 1916s aluminum.
You will need to use a B50 (Dacron) string on that bow, not a low stretch string material.
I have some 1916s cut to 29 1/4 inches if you want to try them.
Im shooting GTip 600s from a 45lb at my 28" draw with a low strtch string, total of 175 grains up front.
Im thinkin with a B50 string a 600 spine will work good..if you are drawing the 45 lbs
