Height? - 01/01/20 02:39 AM

I know it gets hashed and rehashed. But I’m just getting bowhunting bug again. How high y’all like? I’m gonna try climbing 18-20.
Thought about getting some climbing sticks for lock ons. Is 15 kinda standard for them?

After 15' your sight window starts to diminish due to the angle.

I like at least 20’ but that’s just me. Can go lower just won’t be able to get away with as much movement.

My bow rope is 20 feet. I climb until my bow lifts off the ground.

I use 4 lone wolf sticks and I can easily get 18-22 feet

Somewhere between 10 and 30 feet. As high as the cover is. If there’s no cover, which is the case in a lot of places this time of year, I’ll get as high as I can to get out of normal line of sight but not give me too hard of an angle. If that makes any sense. In hilly places where I hunt, terrain and where I expect them to be makes a difference.

I normally stay about 20 to 22’. Shop around for sticks. The ones I buy come with five 4’ sections. From my experience once you go over 25’, that’s when the angle starts screwing with you.

A lot of the angle depends on how close the animal is when you shoot. The closer the more the window closes.

I try and pick a tree that has some cover around it if possible. Nothing stands out more than someone hanging off a slick tree about 20’

I like my hawk sticks. I did the rope modification using the lone wolf button. Loc on stands Give you more options on tree selection, but you knew that already.

I think 15-16 is the minimum. 18-22 is best.

15-20 ft summit ladder stand works fine now that you can corn them anywhere you want em to stand, on private land at least

Re: Height? - 01/02/20 04:59 PM

Im looking for cover and something to break up outline. I keep plenty of sticks so height that doesn't matter but I do prefer to be between 20 and 25ft. I mostly bow hunt and change sets often. I cant stand for a deer to come in and see a new ladder stand and follow the ladder right up the tree and look right at me.

I like a tree next to a smaller tree. I'll climb, then swing around so I'm on top of the smaller one. This really breaks the outline.

Terrain and angles can always come into play, but I agree with this.
