I’m hunting Wheeler this morning. I’m set up at the back end of a slough, trying to use it as a pinch point. I’m 40 yards from the edge of a bedding area. Good luck y’all!

Clean pass through and looks like good blood on the arrow (looking down through binos). Heres a picture of the shot I took. She had her leg raised and did a big loop around. I watched her 75 yards or so through binos before I lost her. Giving her plenty of time.[Linked Image]

She’s really small. I’m not super pleased at killing such a youngin but I won’t waste her.

Why did you quarter her up? Could have just put her in your pocket and walked her out. smile

JK, as someone else said. Any bow kill is a good one. I like the smaller ones too, easier to drag and not as bad on my back.

Don't fret about it, She will eat real good.

Think about how you are honing those skills. Those smaller ones are harder to hit. grin

Re: 12/15/2018 - 12/16/18 08:17 PM

gcr, the last deer I killed with a bow was probably 10 years ago. It was about the spittin image of that deer you killed. A buddy and myself had leased 100 acres in central AL and there was no managed property anywhere around it. We just shot whatever we wanted to. I have only killed a handful of deer with a bow as I suffer from the yips pretty bad. That little deer walked out in the plot, I drew back and let one rip. She lunged foward when I shot and I hit her just on the bottom of the spine right above her guts. Now I already felt sorta bad for shooting at a little deer anyway, but when I hit her it knocked her down and she laid there and screamed at about 150 decibels for the last 20 seconds of her life. I felt terrible but the meat was good. I had clipped the artery that runs just below the spinal column.

Deers a deer. A little smaller and you could dig a pit and cook it whole like a hog. Makes for some good eating!
