I’m hunting cahaba with 3FFarms this morning. Sipping on coffee waiting on that goober to show up. This is like taking a kid on a youth hunt, I had to scout a spot for him and mark a tree for him to climb laugh

Way to go, Jono! Happy for you man! thumbup

Southwood garholed me. He told me we were going to his number one spot. Nevermind we passed one of the biggest bucks I've ever seen on the way in about 3 miles before "his" spot. Then he sends me down a logging road and tells me, "walk that way" and pointed towards Orion in the sky. He didn't even tell me until after the hunt that we were on private property but only mentioned to run if I saw anyone as I walked off from the truck early this morning. Apparently this is a turkey hunting tactic that I'm not aware of since I'm a lowly ol' deer hunter.

I'm looking for a new hunting partner if anyone is available.

Just spray it off with a water hose after you get it skinned. Quarter it up and put it in a cooler on ice. Open the drain so the water can run off. Keep it on ice for a few days letting the blood drain out.

Re: LFTT 10/25 - 10/25/17 10:59 AM

What CNC said, rinse it off good, quarter it or debone the meat and keep it on ice for about few days, drain off the water and keeping adding ice as it melts. This will help the meat age well. Get some freezer paper and good plastic wrap for freezing.

One tip that I like for backstraps - leave the silverskin on when you freeze. It will help protect the meat against freezer burn.

Re: LFTT 10/25 - 10/25/17 11:12 AM

Yea rinse it off. Let it drip dry/drain then freeze.

Hit her right behind the shoulder blade, complete passthrough. I thought I missed when I first walked up to the arrow lol. It was stuck in the ground like I didn't shoot anything, but realized it was covered in blood when I got up to it. It was a 25 yard shot, shot through some super thick stuff but had 1 tiny shooting lane and she walked right into it. Like I said earlier, she ran 20 yards and fell.Second bow kill for me. Hoping for many more!

Oh and I used G5 Montec brodheads and a nufletch ignitor nock.

I just now finally got still and am actually hunting. One of those days where you just shake your head and wonder what the hell you were thinking. I spent way too long scouting for the right spot and then once I climbed the tree I realized I had no clear shots with all the limbs. Climbed back down, took the climber back to the truck and am now sitting in the same spot but on the ground where I can see better. Oh the joys of public land hunting. Sweating like a mule....
