Recurve string question

Recurve string question - 02/21/16 02:23 PM

I found an old recurve at a pawn shop and figured for $25 why not start another project. It has a old Dacron string on I believe but its in need of a new one. It's an early 80's model bow I believe and does not have reinforced limb tips. Question: would it really hurt if I put ff strings on an older bow. Everything I've researched is 50/50 as far as no it won't hurt or yes it will saw your tips off. Do any of you guys have personal experience with this?

I've had several stick bows and I've never put a FF string on a bow that didn't have reinforced tips. Just twist you up a Flemish with Dacron.

Ok would you recommend a B-50 Flemish twist bow string or a double loop B-50 Dacron endless bow string?

A dacron string is the safest. If you use any non stretch strings have the loops padded with dacron. I shoot a 100% 8125 ff string on my BBO and it's fine after thousands of shots. The tips are overlayed with burl Osage but they are still very thin.

I went with the B-50 Flemish twist
