Recommend me a zebco 33 style reel - 03/17/21 03:43 AM
Wanting something dependable to crappie fish with. I prefer a spinning reel, kids seem to like a push button type reel.

I bought a couple of Z02’s several years ago for the kids & womens, pricey but they have held up well. A Z02, ml rod, 8# line, a slider jig & a 4’ dead ringer worm have put a lot of spots thru the fryer. There are also Z03’s if you need a bigger reel.

Diana spincast are the best I’ve used. Got a couple I got when I was a kid and they still work fine.

Another vote for the Omega Pro Z02. We use them all the time for crappie.
I haven't bought any spincasting tackle in several years, but it looks like the Zebco Bullet has taken that type of tackle to a different level. A slow retrieve and a lousy drag has always been the big disadvantage for using a spincasting reel, but it looks like this one is much better. Anyone tried one?
>>>
Aptly named, the Zebco Bullet Spincast Reel employs an exclusive, patent-pending technology that allows it to pick up 29.6” of line with each turn of the handle, making it the fastest spincast reel on the market. Faster than a 6.2:1 casting reel and most 20-size spinning reels, the Zebco Bullet Spincast Reel allows anglers to catch up to fast-moving fish and quickly pick up slack on long casts.
The most recognized brand in the fishing industry, Zebco has doubled-down on their commitment to quality with the Bullet, including premium components, like CNC machine-cut brass drive gears and GripEm all-weather handle knobs. Left and right hand compatible, the Zebco Bullet Spincast Reel features a 9-bearing system and a FreeFlow 3mm line guide that extends casting distance and performance. Included with a spare spool of line, the Zebco Bullet Spincast Reel combines time-tested design with patent-pending design to provide anglers with true tournament-grade design.
Features:
-All-metal gears
-Continuous anti-reverse clutch
-Spare spool of line
-Quick change spool design
-ZeroFriction dual-bearing supported pick-up pin design
-Changeable right or left hand retrieve
-FreeFlow Micro 3mm line guide
-Forged aluminum and double anodized front cover
-9 bearings (8BB + 1RB)
-GripEm all weather handle knobs<<<

Dayum, I don't think I could drop 100 bucks on a spincast.

Yeah, that's a lot on the Bullet, but I have several that I paid $75 for years ago. I was thinking of ordering one until I saw that it weighs 13 oz. That would make it balance very poorly with any rod that I have.

I have a couple of zebco 33 for my five year old son. He throws it well. Accuracy is another story.

I grew up with Zebco 33. When I started taking my nephew last year I bought him one. It was a China made POS that I wound up throwing in the trash after a couple trips.

I watched an old black gentleman fight a 15 pound hybrid stripe on a Zebco 33. Zebco had a melt down with the fish still 20 feet out and he had to handling it in.

Abu Garcia abumatic. I’ve had one for the kids and wife for 6 years and I like minnow fishing with it a lot.

I always hated a spincast reel so when my granddaughter was six I bought her a Mitchell 300 spinning reel and taught her how to use it. In no time she was casting it where she wanted to. I've never tried a spincast that was any good, so I can't recommend one.

Omega pro is the only one I'd recommend, unless you can find an older 33 classic....

Learn em to use a spinning reel cheaper and not that hard to learn. Then upgrade to a baitcaster

We sell a ton of the bullets at the store and we have a couple at the lake that belonged to Madison's grandpa. They pick up almost as much line as most 7.1 baitcaster. Pretty cool reel and I've yet to hear of anyone having an issue with them
