Forget the crowds...

Forget the crowds... - 05/11/20 02:37 PM

Crowded boat ramps, boats with dual power poles, spinner baits.......these are all things that don't really resonate with me. Not to say I look down on it, I just don't care for it. What I like are cool mountain streams, complete solitude, a fly rod, and bass that look almost painted. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

I feel the same way TroutBum. Without a doubt my favorite type of fishing.

Please, like I have that kind of cash!? It's a simple 'ol blue collar workhorse. A Cabela's CGR 6'6" 2WT paired with a Redington ZERO reel.

I'm jealous. My knees stop me from climbing and my back stops me from wading.

The more time I spend on the Cahaba, the more I wonder why I run around to all these lakes........

Unfortunately most of the water around me is rarely clear and you sink over your ankles

I used to live near those streams. Now that I'm down here in the swamps I've had to adapt.
I can still find somewhat similar fishing, but no more of the Grand Redeye.

Very nice! All the floors and cold weather have kept me from going yet. Plus, Lay Lake has been good the past few weeks. But I am gonna get after some red-eyes soon, Lord willing.

When I was in Yellowstone last summer. I saw a guy fly fishing at first light. Stopped and talked to him and he was from FL and came up there couple times a year just to fly fish and enjoy the time.

I'd be getting the hell outta Fl. too.

Ole popping bug gets them every time! Incredible pictures. Have several creeks here I fish that are too wooded for fly rods, but a pocket full of rooster tails and an ultralight is perfect.

No such thing with a little practice. I've fished some that you would think there was no way to cast. It's certainly more difficult with a fly rod, but it can be done!

I have a 7'6' Cabelas Prestige 3wt. TQR (Tight Quarters Rod) I use for stuff like that.
Heck, I use it for all my creek fishing.

Re: Forget the crowds... - 05/12/20 01:37 AM

secret to thick cover is to use the fly rod like a cane pole.

Re: Forget the crowds... - 05/12/20 01:56 AM

I sometimes use a collapsible Tenkara pole.
Google Tenkarabum.
