Re: 243win - 07/03/22 10:03 PM

Looking over my notes I used Win 760 and 95 gr Partitions not the most.accurate load but you are driving a 24 caliber through deer and that's important. 39.0 grains to start with.

Never used big game for my 243 but I've got very good results using IMR4350 with 100 and 90 grain bullets.

Pretty sure W760 and H414 are the same thing with different labeling.

My pet load in 7-08 is 120GR NBT and 48 grains of H414/Win 760. Sub MOA.

They are the same powder.

What’s your velocity and barrel length?

Re: 243win - 10/06/22 03:24 PM

a near max load of H4831 has always worked the best for me with the heavier bullets. I have ried several others and I got the best accuracy with that load from my gun. YMMV

Re: 243win - 10/06/22 04:07 PM

26 inch barrel for me.

W760 and H414 are the same today but there is a good dead of variability in the lots within and between both these so don't just assume anything with some flippant comment like "they are the same". Well that's true BUT my experience is you had better check each lot even though it IS the same stuff inside.. Pretty temp sensitive too. Not my favorite powder because of this.... but good in a crappy little .243 or at least my varmint rifle. Rifle is a pre'64 Winchester Model 70 Heavy Barrel. I know you are jealous.

Barrel length is 16.5 and I have no idea about velocity but I can attest it will flat put a smack down on a deer. I have shot 2 deer with it and 1 yote. I gut shot the yote, because thats the shot he gave me, and oh my lord what a mess. The first deer I shot was quartering to me and it blew the brisket out of it, the last deer I shot last year was a doe going away from me, I shot out of a tree. Ran off into a pine thicket about 40 yards, if that. Blood trail Stevie Wonder could follow Both deer were complete pass through.

You will rarely see me out hunting with a barrel longer than a 16.5. I have a 20 in 308 I sometimes take, especially if I sit on a green field in the evening, because it has my best scope on it. Longest shot I have right now is under 150 yards. 7-08 is a ruger stainless M77 carbine. I have a blue one in 308, it weighs 1/4 lb less, and is NOT fun to shoot off a bench, so I haven't found anything it likes yet.

When you figure out the velocity, let me know.
