Hogs during small game

Hogs during small game - 12/12/18 02:44 PM

Alot of places allow you to pursue hogs during small game but you must use the same guns allowed for small game. My question... 22 mag is leagal for small game right? It says 22 rimfire and the mag is a 22 rimfire. Just tired of people telling me a 22 mag isn't legal for small game in alabama. Coon hunters and squirrel hunters have told me this. They also say a 17 isn't legal either but the rules only say 22 or smaller so I would think both are legal

22 mag and 17 HMR are definitely legal arms for small game. Something like a 22 hornet that's centerfire is not.

on a lot of public land the mag wasnt legal as of a couple of years ago but it could have changed

I've never heard this. But then again I've only ever carried a 22 lr for squirrels and only hunted three management areas for hogs/deer with a bow.

If you are hunting public land it will say on the permit what is legal. If you are hunting private land anything between a slingshot and a Barrett .50 is legal. Lol

Ah yeah that makes sense. I wasn't thinking about corp land. They do have some funky rules sometimes.

I use a 17wsm in the wma's when squirrel season comes in and its extremely effective on hogs

Well, does it have a primer sitting in a pocket in the center of the shell or is it flat like all other 22 shells?

I'll check the permit when I get back home but I'm almost positive it only says 22 rimfire or smaller.
