Recommend a brand? I am needing one, no experience with any of them.

I believe TC has one that he has used for several years that came from Northern Tool. Shoot him a PM.

Fimco is probably the most common. We have one, its good. I recommend looking at the gallon per minute rating. A 1 gpm pump will be too slow. We have around a 5gpm and that sucker will spray. Boomless works pretty good, probably not quite as good as a true boom, but good enough.

The pump is the most important part. Tractor Supply has several different size tanks. Be sure to clean out the tank, pump and sprayers after spraying gly, and if you spray diesel/gas for burning you need to use a pump from a auto parts business.

Re: ATV sprayer? - 07/13/15 09:34 AM

From what research I have done, it seems that pump size is the biggest factor. I want a minimum of 3.8gpm. Going to look at ones from Northern tool and Tractor supply. 25 gal tank. Trying to decide on boomless or boom. Understand the booms have a finer mist and are a better application.

Hook up both boomless and boom, just use a valve to switch. I like Tractor Supply because they are local and you can get parts easily, the mist is controlled by the pressure and nozzle type.

Northern Tool has one with a 5.5 gpm pump that is a dandy. Hands down best one I've owned, and I am not sure that I haven't had at least 1 of all of them over the years.

Now there are some better ones when you move up in sizes and get to commercial/agriculture grade sprayers.

For food plotting, boomless works just fine.

Have had a Northern Tool sprayer for 5 trouble-free years. Mine is a 26 gallon tank, boomless, with a wand. Really like it. Fairly decent support, too. Loaned it to the hunting club and it came back with one of the electrical connections broken off of the pressure switch. Called Northern and had one in a couple of days. ?I built a frame to mount mine in the back of a Ranger. Looking for a picture.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm going to specifically look at the northern and Tractor supply.

Check out the "Great Day Plot Pro" sprayer. Made in the USA and it has been rock solid for me for several years. I have sprayed a good bit with it and it fits on the 4-wheeler easily.
It also has a boomless nozzle that works great.

Same experience here; think I've had mine at least 6 years now. The mount for the nozzles was weak and I decided to just bolt it to the atv rear rack. I've had to replace several of the T valves; just buy some extra ones when you get it. They are cheap, but that won't matter if you don't have one.

Same for me as PCP and NH. I got the 5.5 on my ranger. Can't beat it.

Ha! Sad but true these days.

Sounds like the 5.5 north star it will be!

Buy this northern tool sprayer and spray away. You might be able to save 25 bucks or maybe more on one, but this one is a spot sprayer and boomless sprayer in one. Can't beat that.

Make sure in the winter you have ALL the water out of that pump, or you are going to crack it. Don't ask me how I know this. slap

There is a company, AG Spray Equipment that sells sprayers and they are based in Alabama. I have had good luck with their sprayers and the Northern Tool as well. I have not had the best luck with Fimco sprayers

Re: ATV sprayer? - 07/16/15 07:50 AM

Nothing special. Fabbed a frame years ago to mount the sprayer in a 2004 Ranger. It's shown here in 2011 Ranger. The sprayer bolts to the frame, the frame bolts to UTV. The sprayer has 4 threaded inserts (5/16-18) in the bottom of the tank for attachment to the frame. The frame attaches to the Ranger by removing the 2 corner bed bolts and installing longer bolts. I use SS Pan Head SCS's. The Ranger's bed bolts are 1/4-20's. Obviously, I need to shorten the hose to the nozzles. I had been spot sparying when this was taken, so the smaller hose is undone for using the wand.

If I were to do it again, I'd shorten the length out to the nozzles and remove the tailgate when spraying, and would add a couple of points for lifting. It's not too heavy for one guy to handle, but is kind of awkward.

Turkey I made one similar I mounted a 65 gallon tank from Tractor and Supply to landscape timbers with the belt strapping then bought a pump and hose with a wand . Then I bought a lawn mower battery and run it off that , also attached a pvc pipe with nipples that I use when spraying big fields .

Not to hijack but this is our setup for a ranger. 60 gal tank which will treat right at 5 acres per tank. L/R switch for the two broadcast nozzels and a wand for spot spraying. Its made by b and b technologies

Nice set up. Specs?

Re: ATV sprayer? - 07/24/15 09:28 PM

60 gal, right at 12 g/a. Can run it off a cigarette lighter plug or battery. Light enough empty to move it around by yourself. 1100 tyd. Not mine but ive used it more than he has. The wand is the most addicting thing abt it. We fight over who drives bc the other guy gets to use the wand.

Re: ATV sprayer? - 07/27/15 09:12 AM

I bought the 26 gal 5.5 gpm unit from Northern Tool. Used it this past saturday to spray a food plot. Worked well. Hopefully i did my part and covered everything.

Re: ATV sprayer? - 07/27/15 09:45 PM

As long as you are putting down at least 12 gal/a , spraying back to your tire tracks, mixing correctly and it didnt rain........ you should be fine smile

Re: ATV sprayer? - 07/28/15 09:35 AM

I used Ranger Pro, which is made by Monsanto. It was a 41% active ingredient concentrate. I went with a 4oz per gallon mix rate, which is a little stouter than necessary. I sprayed 16 gallons on a food plot that is a bit less than an acre. I was almost able to go over it twice. Could not see tire tracks, I had bush hogged it two weeks ago and that made it hard to tell...but The rows of dead debris helped.
