Nice older Browning Bar

Nice older Browning Bar - 10/28/23 07:11 PM

I have what looks to be a 1967 Browning Bar (based on serial number) chambered in 30-06. It’s in VERY good condition for its age no rust and the bluing doesn’t show much wear. This was the first year these were made. It has a Prong Horn engraved on one side of the receiver and an Elk on the other. The wood shows some handling marks but nothing deep or into the wood. Has forward sight and a fold down rear sight. Still has factory screws in scope mounting holes. I bought a rail for it but never installed. Im looking to trade for a bolt action rifle. Maybe an Abolt, X bolt, Weatherby, Remington, Steyr, etc. I’d love to have a .257 Weatherby magnum 25-06 30-06 7mm magnum 300 win but I’m not dead set on any particular caliber. No auto rifles shotguns or pistols. Just send me any offers and Will also accept gun scope combo to even up the deal. I can text pics to anyone with any trade offers not looking to sell at this time. My research is showing these guns selling from $800-1300 on online gun sites so I’ll put the value in the middle of that. 251-635-7725 text me for pics, thanks!

The hazy look on the bluing on the receiver is just reflection.

If ots made before 71 or 72…i belive..its what they call a type 1 bar…they the best and most reliable of all the bar’s. The type 2 was notorious for the bolt busting and bolt parts failing..that was with anything but the cheapest factory ammo available..wichester power point or a rem cor lokt..your fine…a nice high quality round thats maybe a little hotter…bust lile a cracker. I have no experience with the later generations…this is a special rifle…they are basically indestructible, accurate, and flawlessly reliable. These are the true Belgium brownings…i own two type 1..a really nice 1968..an a frankenstein beater thats part 69 and part 70 and like 73..i think..three different serial numbers..only one looks factory…an parts dont match well..an all the checkering has been sanded off..but it will fire anything you put in as fast as you can pull the trigger. There are brownings…and then there is this gun☝🏻…if somebody wants the finest example of an autoloading rifle browning ever made..buy this..all the ones made after this are just another BAR

I think type I was pre'76 ( pre Portugal stamped ) rifles and they were grades 1-5 , the Safari started with the assembled in Portugal . Correct?

I've had several both grade I and II , in various calibers , but never any III or higher grades .

Re: Nice older Browning Bar - 10/29/23 01:59 AM

Well..before our house burned..daddy had the old browning catalogs and they explained it very well…im pretty sire you can look up all that information pretty easy also. I didnt think the type 1 made it to 76’ but it very well may have..thats the one part i couldnt remember. As far as i know..the safari was available from the beginning…but ive only seen grade 1 and 2 before the mid 70’s. The pictures kn the books we had showed the above rifle as a grade 2 safari…they did have higher grades an the later ones had funky lookin crest an i think some had a tiger maybe🧐…it has been a really long time…id swear the above rifle is a grade 2 safari..i may be wrong..its been years. I used to guide 2 retired browning master smiths an they were the ones who identified my rifles..and also told me the disappointing history of my grade 2…it had a very hard life.

Any interest in a Ruger American Predator in 25-06?
It currently has a Vortex Crossfire II 4-16x50 scope & Burris Rings.
Have plenty of ammo to go with it.

Very nice rifle. I've got one just like it in 243 that was my great grandfather's.

Re: Nice older Browning Bar - 10/29/23 02:11 PM

IIRC, that IS a Grade II (scroll engraving). Safari came much later. All I have spare for trade fodder are lower end bolt guns and an AR/upper built around a JP super match tube.

My trigger isnt gold..or it aint no more..i really need to make anpost in the gun forum with pics…yall could see what a browning looks like when its severely mistreated..or maybe run over by a tractor..idk how its in the shape its in..my daddy bought it like that…i only found out later that it was a pieced together mess.
