Laying hens - 09/17/23 10:52 PM

Actually not all laying yet but they should start within the next month or so. My wife hatched them late spring. Right now she’s looking to get rid of 5 of them. She may get rid of more. $15 a piece

LOL, yard chickens. That's the dumbest comment you could make. if you're going to post a chicken "for sale post" maybe you need to figure out what you have.

Here's a VERY short list of something you might be able to read and pick from.

Buff Orpington, or some other type of Orpington
Rhode Island Red
Golden Comets
Leghorns
Ameraucana
Plymouth Rock
Delaware
Black Australorp
Lohmann Brown

Jesus fraking Christ. what kind of chickens do you have?

Yard birds are the best breed around. Good luck with your chickens TW. Great guy to deal with, buy with confidence.

Re: Laying hens - 09/18/23 02:08 AM

We have a few yard birds. They are a mix of a couple of breeds we have that my wife hatched. For the work it takes to get them to the age that they start laying, $15 is cheap. Last time we sold some we got $100 for 3 at 6-7 weeks old.

We are in the same boat. She raised 30 and every single one survived. We had about 10 roosters and we’ve only got 2 of them left to get rid of. But we have about 5-10 too many hens. We just need to thin the herd. Trying to get somebody some hens for a decent price.

I love my chickens!! But they still just a chicken. As long as it lays eggs I’m good. Kinda reminds me of dog thread .

Re: Laying hens - 09/20/23 04:14 PM

Wow some folks serious bout some chickens - btw, you are going about this all wrong - give them a fancy mixed breed name like “cock-a-doodles” and charge twice the price - they will be gone in no time and will be showing up all over social media smile.

Good luck 😀

As long as they are in your yard pooping on your driveway, I’m good with them!!

I’d hate to see some of you in a serious bind of some sort if you get your feathers ruffled over a chicken. I know TW and I promise you he has papers on those birds. 😂

Re: Laying hens - 09/20/23 07:26 PM

Appreciate the kind words. We put a lot into our purebred yard chickens here. I was really hoping that someone may want one of these high quality egg producers. I guess we will continue to have more eggs than we know what to do with if no one wants these.

Re: Laying hens - 09/20/23 07:39 PM

My wife and kids would take them in a heart beat but I’ll be dang if I’m bringing one more thing to the house to feed. grin

Re: Laying hens - 09/20/23 08:47 PM

Oh come on. This is one thing you feed that feeds you back. I think you need 5 or 20

Re: Laying hens - 09/20/23 11:36 PM

Is there a auction close by you could take them?
Posted By: twaldrop4

Re: Laying hens - 09/20/23 11:39 PM

Not that I know of. I honestly figured folks would want to have few laying hens. When I tried to get rid of roosters everybody wanted hens and now nobody wants chicken. I reckon we will have some extra freezer meat
