Appliance part needed - 05/19/22 06:41 PM

Looking for a Frigidaire part no. 318601700, it's for a Kenmore stove/oven 790.79523600. The rotary switch for off, bake, broil, clean, etc. Online all I see is discontinued or unavailable. Got to be some sitting on a shelf somewhere. Would appreciate a lead to find one and would hit skinny with the donation, thanks.

There’s a place in Clanton that will probably have one or could probably get one. Cleckler’s appliances.

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/20/22 01:34 PM

Dang deer, we past it being the beaker, and I know it's not the breaker either. Think it's hainted, starts beeping crazy, cuts off, back on, back off, sometimes shows ERR and don't come back on. Gently wiggly the knob that goes to the switch I'm hunting and it may work fine.

I'll give them a call also, appreciate it. This is what I need the names of appliance repair places. One of them somewhere has to have this hanging on the wall or laying on a shelf. If yall will keep helping, I should get one of these rounded up. Thanks again ROD.

They’re a repair place but they may tell you where to get the part. Cosby’s appliance repair (also does hvac) 3347926774 located in Dothan.

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/22/22 04:31 PM

If you find a source for the switch please share where you got it. I have same issue and have been searching for over a month. The potentiometer is made by piher but that info still hasn't helped me locate one yet maybe it will for you. Also if you keep using it when it's beeping like mad then you stand a chance at frying a relay and/or a complete relay board. I took my switch apart recently cleaned, blew it out and pulled up on the copper contact inside slightly. It seems better and have had no errors since but don't want to jinx it by saying its fixed.

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/23/22 02:12 AM

I've run into this before on a couple older model GE stove .

The ones we had at one complex the indicator light would not come on when you were baking/broiling but other wise the stove worked fine . We'd have to replace the stove because the selector switch wouldn't power that little light . The were made in 86

Ones at my other complex we couldn't get the bake//broil selector switch for those. You could find them on ebay for $250 and up though . Those were 83 models.

On both models I could get any other part , no proplem

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/24/22 08:32 PM

I see some suggestions of using a universal or one from another manufacturer good ideas but impossible to find the specific specs. This part is a potentiometer not a simple make or break switch. Without knowing the values at each detent position, placement of the harness plug/contact relation and finally mounting and clocking it for the specific application makes it difficult to narrow down. I just ordered a 5304500591, it supposedly has the same 8 positions and a 4 contact harness connector (mine only uses 3 of them). Need to use a die to cut threads in lower part where shaft meets body hoping that is the extent of modifications needed. I guess I'm the guinea pig.

Let me know how it goes. I may go ahead and order one myself now. I guess your oven is the same model, 790.79523600? The knob is large enough to hide them, you could just drill 2 holes through the panel and use screws to mount it. At least it looks like that after a quick view.

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/25/22 01:12 AM

My stove is a different model number but it uses the same switch yours does. My stove is 790.42003605 it's a double wall oven(way too expensive to simply discard) I think these are all rebadged Electrolux. Yep will keep you posted.

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/30/22 07:13 AM

Good news I received the new switch #5304500591 and it works for the most part. 6 out of 8 positions are fully functional now, don't have clean or bread proof but we never used them so they won't be missed. I had to test resistance values and take notes of each and every position then compare/ extrapolate the best I could with the old switch and had to relabel the switch handle as positions are different. Still need to mount more securely and since my dies don't seem to fit right will probably just get a thread cutting nut.

I'm thinking the same thing fur, but thanks lobuc, haven't ordered that part yet but will soon. That part must be getting scarce, looks like it was $50-60, now about $100.

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/30/22 07:49 PM

Lobuc, how did you mount it, thread it as planned?
Posted By: lobuc

Re: Appliance part needed - 05/31/22 12:33 AM

I started out trying to cut the threads of the shaft with a die but that didn't work very well so ended up doing what you suggested. I just drilled two holes through the plastic portion of front cover and escutcheon plate of switch. The SS panel is cut oversized from factory so luckily didn't have to drill through it. The screws are 8-32 just had to make sure they were not too long and hit circuit panel of switch somewhere around a 5/8-3/4 long.
