Lowndes Co. Rut report - 01/19/15 07:55 AM

Hunted from 14-18, saw some small buck movement. One good buck killed. They seem to be cruising the food plots and feeding on them even though there are no does on it. I think it will be on this week. Heard very few shots on the surrounding properties.

Had a buddy bowhunt down there on the WMA last week (not sure which days, but I think Wed and Thur, he said the woods were full of fresh buck sign, but they didn't see any chasing or shootable bucks. They both saw several does and one small basket rack. That's all the details I know...we were just texting back and forth.

Have seen significant rut activity last two weekends, including older bucks cruising in mornings and chasing on food plots in afternoons (White Hall/Gordonsville area).

The scrapes on our place was freshened up right after the rain last Thursday. Everyone of them that I checked had been freshened up by Friday. My experience with the scrape topic is: when love is truly in the air then the dominant bucks stop working the scrapes and are chasing/ looking for the hot does. Thoughts???

I went back to my 100 acres in Collerine this morning. Scrapes that were fresh a week ago have not been worked since. Lots of tracks though. Looking forward to seeing what's on my camera when I get home today.
