Skyline WMA Zone B Boundaries on your Phone GPS app - 10/13/14 08:10 AM
As described below, I traced out the boundaries of Skyline WMA Zone B and imported it to my GPS app on my phone. I've uploaded these boundaries in two formats, both you can download and use as you wish. Accuracy is within 30 to 60 feet so don't attempt to use it in court if you get a trespassing charge. It's only purpose is to give you a close guess as to where the boundaries are.
Skyline WMA Bounds Zone B (KML) - Suitable for import into Google Earth
Skyline WMA Bounds Zone B (GPX) - Suitable for importing into most GPS apps (for example Motion-X GPS)
IF YOU HAVE ISSUES DOWNLOADING THIS JUST PM ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND I'LL EMAIL IT TO YA ...
For the Geeks ... Here's how I did it :
1) Obtain and open the 2014-2015 Skyline WMA document in PDF format on my PC. Zoom in on 3 sections of Zone B and take snapshots of them.
2) In Google Earth Pro I create layers with these images then stretch and resize them until the roads and boundaries in the PDF match those in Google Earth Pro. Set the transparency to about 50% so I can see through them.
3) By hand, using the Add Path tool in Google Earth Pro, I trace around the boundaries from the PDF images. Once done, I hide the images and only the boundaries appear.
4) I select the boundaries and save them as a KML file on my desktop. I use one of many online apps to convert the KML file to GPX format.
5) Import the GPX file into my iPhone app, depends on the app but this is really easy for me in Motion-X
Enjoy!
