Just get on HWY. 72 and drive,dead deer everywhere it happens like this every year.

yeah i noticed that driving home from camp saturday and sunday.

is it my imagination or do the skunks 'rut' around same time? seems like i start seein a lot of run over skunks in january.

skunks are supposed to be hibernating,so I am not sure when they mate.

I think skunks must mate in February. IIRC that's when I see so many run over.

I've always heard they rut the same time as deer.

well this was a good day cause i learned something. i did not know skunks hibernate (semihibernate anyway). maybe the ones i see run over in january are sleep walkers?! lol

yes semihibernate,I think if you will notice,there seems to be more skunks out and about after a big rain event,could be flooding there dens.

maybe that explains seeing alot of skunk road kill in january?

back to the deer road kill in rut time, i see many more does than bucks run over. is that just a function of the doe/buck ratio or maybe partially cause the buck is chasing and applies the brakes when he sees his wanna be mate kiss the bumper?

I would assume that is the reason.
