7mm-08 definitely. Way better ballistics and you can get reduced recoil ammo if you need it. Bought a youth model for my grandson and we both really like it.

25-06 is a great low recoil round with great ballistics.

id get her a .308. They offer managed recoil loads for it also. When she gets used to it you can use regular ammo. My 15 year old daughter shoots my .308 and .270. My oldest killed her first deer at age 12 with a .308

Read the youth gun advice in the drop down. I put a recoil, enerty, velocity chart in there.

If would go with the 7-08 over the 30/30.

unless you are shooting over 100yrds it really doesn't matter.

I would get it early and paint the stock pink camo. How it looks is 100x more important to a woman that ballistics, energy, etc.

google
Remington ballistics and there is a pretty good online program to compare different rounds

Heck you can buy a 7-08 with scope cheaper than a 30-30. Marlin XS7 or Savage Axis.

I would go with the 7 08 but there are lots of options out there do some research and put it to the style of hunting you will be doing I personally like a 30 caliber and the 308 is a very good choice not a lot of kick and plenty of punch even on longer shots.

I'd go with the 7-08 over most any round.

I have both.

30/30 for "in the woods" hunting. I like the larger diameter bullet.

7-08 for eveything else.

So to answer the question. 7mm-08 for an all around for her.

Better question for those two calibers would be open sight lever action vs. scoped bolt action.

Lever action: Quick handling, shouldering, and aiming. Easier to walk with and carry if you're stalk hunting. Cool. Much, much quicker to aim and shoot with open sights. Wide field of vision. Lightning fast second shot.

Bolt action: Longer range. More accurate. Better ballistics with this round. Scope is better for low light hunting. Slower second shot.

Some truth in what ya say, but she can have it all. Something like a Browning Mico-Hunter is great for women and kids, short barrel and stock. Then top it with a low power variable scope with a heavy reticle, mounted low of course, is fast on the target.

Just asking but why not a 243?

" Lightning fast second shot." ?
She may be Annie Oakly, but the only guns I evaluate for quick second shots are shotguns.

My DIL will be on her very first deer hunt one morning this weekend. She'll be using the NEF single shot 30-30 that my son killed his first deer with. I got it for my son on Veterans Day when he was 10 and he killed his first one the next day. It has a LER shotgun scope on it so no danger of getting 'scope eye' from recoil. She shot it 3 times Sunday and did very well.

7-08 without question. Second shots? My dad always said "you can't miss fast enough for it to matter".

Ever had a deer keep going after you hit it?

Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. If it ain't DRT when you hit it, hit it again.

That's what they teach about shooting people. Why should deer be treated differently?

I never had to worry about a deer shooting back, so making sure he dies on the spot isn't the same concern for me. Also, I always plan on eating any deer I kill, so the less shot-up he is the better in my opinion, and the last thing I want to do is just sling lead at the back end of a running deer.
I try to only take a shot I like, if the angle isn't right, or if it's obstructed the safety never comes off, he gets another day.

After I shoot, I'm a lot more interested in seeing what he does & where he goes, if he's flopping around I might jack in another round, but really I usually don't even think about it. I guess if I have a clear line of sight like hunting in a big open hollow a second shot might be doable, but hunting around pines with thick little hardwood bottoms like I do, you'd pretty much have to be satisfied with your first attempt, the second one would just be at the brush waving where he went through.

Love the lever action, iron sighted 30/30. If you're hunting woods, the 30/30 is all you will ever need. It's reliable, quick handling, and kills deer dead. The ammo is also cheap and easy to find. If we chose weapons merely off the ballistic charts, we'd all be shooting the latest Win/Rem mag. Deer don't care what you shoot em with......
