My cameras are dead, maybe no deer or too cold to respond? The deer didn’t even hit the corn in the backyard last night

They hit the corn yesterday evening, but it was right at dark, until that time, I hadn't seen a deer around my house in 2 days, have seen nothing this morning....

Have not been on here since last Wed/Thur I think. Killed a nice one Friday afternoon ( Barbour Co)... processor said the fat was tinged pink which was an indicator the rut was on. The buck followed a doe from a pine thicket into a wide open pasture. Unfortunately, it was a 203 yard shot and all I I had was a .308 with Corelokts , but he piled up DRT. Probably just got lucky.
45 degrees and 10-12 mph winds. I have been paying attention to everyone saying you can kill big deer in a high wind- so I went. It worked out for me.

In a shooting house with a heater. Had a small rack chase a doe in front of the ranger riding in. Was a doe in my plot when I got here. I was a little later getting here. Despite me dripping my faucets, I got no water in the camper this morning so I had to deal with that before leaving. I’ve heard 3 shots since I got here.
I’m in a climber in a spot I haven’t hunted since November. Good bucks on camera. Just need one to cruise through. Trying to think warm thoughts!

Re: 1/21 - 01/21/24 03:34 PM
Mid day to dark for the win today I bet.
Good luck, I’ll take my daughter this pm.
My wife and girls wanted to skip church today! I got in the tree a little after 11, listened to Cornerstone Church live through my headphones, about to eat my sandwich and see what happens! Had some does and smalls small buck on camera ab 10-10:30 but have had some real good ones on camera mid day recently! I’ve never been in the woods at this time, we’ll see how long I can last!

At my buck field - with lack of deer been seeing - expectations very low. At least spot fresh - hardly hunted this stand all year

How is the wind situation for you today? Steady or swirling? If steady, you might get lucky!
Working the thermals, Sitting with my back to the little warrior in a little block of woods with my buddiy....
we both have our sons and are sitting together covering this bottom.
Got here late and sounded like a freight train coming through the woods.
Hopefully we did not blow everything out of here.
Beautiful afternoon and sitting in some beautiful woods that haven’t been messed with too much.
Good luck fellas!

Deer were all over the place here in MO today. I cut and split a loiad of wood for a widow and just running it out to her place and back (maybe 10 miles eound trip) my son and I saw 23 deer. We didnt even go near any row crop fields where they are easier to see. Saw several small 8 pointers.

Congrats on that big buck Stickers...
Guy is pretty straight up. He has been processing deer in that area for the last 15 yrs or so... that is what he said he notices most when "rutty" looking deer come in. Has to do with stress and adrenaline surging during chase and lockdown he thinks. He has no reason to tell anyone a tall tale.

Re: 1/21 - 01/22/24 01:57 AM
Rut is wide open in my neck of the woods. Typically the 21/22 around where we hunt is the absolute peak best time to hunt and it paid off again. Killed the 10 chasing off another buck from his doe. Had another 8 run a doe all over about 10 minutes before I shot him. Got in the stand at 3 shot him at 330. Saw 3 bucks total and 2 does. Had a 4 point running does all over while dragging him out. Been after this one for a few years, not a some high scoring stud but an older buck we wanted to shoot.
Been 5 or 6 years since I’ve shot one with a gun! Felt great!

Re: 1/21 - 01/22/24 02:42 AM
Great deer demp - congrats
Buck tracking - freakin wind switched late - it indicated it prob would - got snorted late - wind switched to west - lot of crap winds this year - i chanced it - got burnt
Had something happen never happen. I hav smelled rutting bucks i hav shot before when i got 30-40 yards from them going to them laying dead. I got a huge whiff of a rutting buck on the way out tonite - stank bad. Wind had switched west - he was on the left side of road as i walked out. Not the deer that snorted
Congrats Demp! I killed this one at 2 this afternoon. He was a couple minutes behind a doe. 172 lbs live weight.
