Western Kentucky Outdoors (WKO) - 01/11/24 01:34 PM

I know this is a long shot, but has anyone hunted with WKO out of Henderson, KY? I have read mixed reviews online, i would say more positive than negative. I know regardless of the outfitter each hunter will have a different experience especially with deer movement, weather, etc. There rates are much lower than others, but they also only provide the hunt, lodging and food is up to the hunter. Looking at doing an early youth 2 day hunt with them. From everything i have found it can be a great hunt if the weather cooperates or can be very slow if its hot.

I'd be careful with some of those outfits that provide only the hunt. A lot of those doing it that way are running as many people through on their land, as they possibly can. With meals and lodging responsibility on the hunters, they are not limited as to the number of hunters present at a given time like most lodges are. Lodges cannot run more people than they have meals and rooms for. What you're describing they definitely can. If it's 50/50 positive and negative or even if there are a pretty good number of negative reviews, I'd probably steer away from it.

Based off the reviews it doesn’t sound like they are that kind of operation just sounds they don’t want to fool with the hospitality side which is understandable, but that’s the reason I was seeking 1st hand experience. I’m cautious with any outfitter without getting a 1st hand experience.

I went on a muzzleloader hunt this past season. The head guy, Mark Gifford, runs a very organized and top notch organization. The new lodge is first class and the food is good. I saw a bunch of deer but never saw a shooter. There were some really nice bucks killed and quite a few seen out of range of a muzzleloader. He has about fifteen farms and does not over hunt them. He will on put you in areas where big bucks have been seen on camera. His rifle hunts are very popular and I’m sure they are booked. One of the guys I hunted with said they had an unbelievable bow season. Their properties mostly consist of row crops with hardwood bottoms.

My mistake! The head guy is mark Clifford not Gifford.
