Sitting on a cut beanfield in Kansas. Winds has finally laid down after blowing 25-50 mph the last two days. 12° and a slight north wind today. Hoping today is the day.

I just added this hunt to the list of stupid chit I’ve done to try to kill a deer. I left the camp in a light mist. About halfway to the stand it turned to a heavy drizzle. Got in the shooting house and the back of the chair is broke and no one mentioned that. Finally dried up from the rain, now I’m sweating. I’m stuck here because I’d have to pass by where my buddy is hunting to get back to camp. The real kicker to all this is that when I left the camp I knew there was zero chance of seeing a deer I’d shoot. But on the bright side I’m saving money be not sitting at the camp drinking all that beer. slap

Guess I need some range time. 4 does came in, 100yds, took my time, wasn’t nervous, did everything I knew to do, and missed. Real bummed, guess I’ll try tomorrow but seems pointless.

I wouldn’t underestimate yourself.
What did you “do” that you knew to do?
Many a deer acted like they weren’t hit and died later as they ran out of the field/area.

How do you know you missed? Lack of blood or hair doesn’t mean anything.
Nothing personal, but most hunters can’t find where the deer was standing when shot, nor where the deer was at when last seen.

David B.

Re: LFTT 12/3/22 (correct year😁) - 12/05/22 01:59 PM

^^^^
I thought lot deer I hit didn’t act hit

Also - check your gun - many a guy missed a deer caise his scope was off

And sometimes depending on what u shoot and where hit - May not bleed lot

Amd I would not give up - I got in a stretch of misses. Started practicing lot more. Also always thought I had to pull my trigger a mile to go off. Took to gun smith - had 8 pounds pressure on it - awful - it prob at 2 now
I practice lot every year and still not miss proof

My son was great in range - awful shooting deer - I got a deathgrip bog pod - helped him lot - when I hunt ground blind I use it

Deer was standing directly next to the only tree in a field. It was a pretty easy reference point. Deer ran off, stopped and looked back, and then ran off the rest of the way. I spent a lot of time walking the area and saw nothing. Friend and I went back the next day and grid searched the whole area for a couple of hours.

But yes I agree about finding the spot where the deer was and where it was last seen. Not taken personally. But again, I feel like I had a pretty obvious reference point.

Gonna go to the range this weekend just to make sure the scope is fine. Maybe it was just me, but wanna make sure before I go out again.

Re: LFTT 12/3/22 (correct year😁) - 12/19/22 01:15 AM

Not to bring up an old thread.....but I finally made it out to a range with the rifle I used on this hunt. It was 6 inches high and 4 inches to the left at 50 yards. Lesson learned, always check your guns. No idea how it got that far off or if my scope is somehow busted? But it seemed fine at the range today after I got it dialed back in. Scope is mounted fine and isnt loose. Was shooting fine groups at 300 yards.

Oh well! Like I said, lesson learned.
