LFTT 2/8/20 - 02/08/20 12:16 PM

Guess I'll start it, sitting in a basket on a clearcut swaying in the wind. Good luck

Re: LFTT 2/8/20 - 02/08/20 12:21 PM

Tucked in a nice little little shooting house waiting on the rain to start. Heard 2 shots already. Somebody almost waited till legal shooting time.

Re: LFTT 2/8/20 - 02/08/20 12:25 PM

Rain pushed me into a shooting house in my backyard. Must be a bass tourney on Jordan, the boats are loud this morning.

Sitting same spot I killed my 7. Know there is a big guy running around in here.
Good luck everyone

Last day for me. Gotta fly to Vegas for a conference tomorrow. Got in a shooting house before the rain started. A deer was already in the field but walked off before legal light.
Good lord blessed me with a buck and doe yesterday evening, would like 1 more for the freezer.

Probably last sit of the season for me. Thinned pines in Geneva county. Very light breeze and clear as a bell. Been a tough but very rewarding season can’t wait till October.

Re: LFTT 2/8/20 - 02/08/20 12:45 PM

Me and the boy are in the wood box with the heat on listening to the rain hit the roof. I just finished a peanut/banana sandwich. Saw one doe and a skunk so far. I guess ill be here till the rain stops anyhow, I dont feel like getting wet. Feeding chart says today is one of them "best" days for hunting. I cant ever remember one of them days being worth a crap. I might need to post a copy of that chart on my feeder

My dad and I are hunting edges of creek draws on new clear cuts. Well our entire lease is either new clear cuts or creek draws.

Sitting in a green field with a hardwood draw on one side and 5 year cutover up wind. Hoping for a little luck to take one with my grand dads old Weatherby. Sure would like to be able to tell him I did while he’s still with us. Took a bear and 6x6 bull last year and hope to add a whitetail.

Hunting a spot that has only been hunted a couple of times all season. Strip about 250 yards long on a ridge top planted and the deer trace it a good bit.

Re: LFTT 2/8/20 - 02/08/20 02:46 PM

Still hunted almost to top of mountain, sat on a rocki waiting for rain to stop, had a buck at about 45 yards on a mission with his nose to ground. Too thick to get a shot and he was gone just as fast as I saw him. Gonna sit and watch this cut for a few then slip across top and back down by lunch. Rain stopped here just a few minutes ago.

Don't do such as that.

It gets like this every year at our club.

So much hunting pressure and the deer just disappear.

This year has been the worst I have seen it.

Had a deer in the field before I could make out what it was, it left.... also seen a 3 pt with a broken foot, or something of the sort.

Also shot at some coyotes. Not sure if I hit one. But definitely scared the chit out of em.

I came to fill the freezer and then I see 2 does getting pushed by a small 4 point. I just can’t bring myself to shooting either. The hot doe could bring in something bigger and the 4 point is just a dink. Then the devil on the other shoulder yells “we need some meat!”. I guess I’m old and soft now.

JT managed to smoke a big ol nanny tonight, just before dark. He wanted to set in my FIL’s ladder since he wasn’t there. It’s in the T intersection of two roads. He can see 75-90 yards on the two directions of the main road and 325 yards to the back of the well pad in front of him. I told him not to shoot anything past the creek crossing (216 yards) anything past it walks. I hear the shot and when I get back over to him I can see a white belly shining dead center of the well pad. He’s trying not to smile Incase he’s in trouble. 309 yds DRT. Him and that 260 make a good pair and have been killing together since he was five. 17 deer, 4 bucks over 120, 206 hogs, 4 coyotes and a bobcat in 9 years.

I know a lot of folks will have something to say about it but he shoots 95 grain vmax ( it’s the ONLY thing it will shoot less than 5 inch group with and it shoots them WAY sub moa) in the 260 and only one of the above mentioned hunts did the animal take a step. 1 doe went 23 yards.

Head and Neck.

Deer are shot where the shoulder creese meets the neck line and Hogs are head shots. The doe that traveled was a little back and low center shoulder. The velocity that things cranking I doubt anything shot forward of the gut would go far if it moved at all.

I glassed up a good one at 615pm put the scope on him and decided to go have an end of season beer instead. Great year, already planning new stand locations and some other changes for next October
