Anyone ever deer hunted South Dakota?

Anyone ever deer hunted South Dakota? - 01/03/20 02:05 AM

I have been offered an opportunity to go to SD in September 2021 for an archery deer hunt. We would mainly be focusing on muleys but the tag is good for whitetail too, is what I was told. Mainly spot and stalk hunting. The main guy rounding this up used to live in SD and still has his guiding license. This apparently makes it easy for him to acquire tags for us all going. I was told to be proficient making 50-80 yard shots, buy some good boots, and a good pack. Anyone else ever experienced this hunt or have any tips? Luckily I have some time on my hands to get things in order.

I know a couple of guys that go to SW South Dakota every year and rifle hunt on some indian land. They both killed real nice deer this year in about 5 hours.

South Dakota has some great hunting. Your buddy having a guided license shouldn’t have any effect on the rest of your getting a tag unless you are hunting his guide use area.

He’s right about making long shots. It’s very open ground. I outfitted in SD for a few years and where I was had lots of open ground.

Good boots and good glass will be very important on your hunt.

Good luck and have fun.

It’s been a few years since I guided there and I am/was unaware of any new Regs for drawing a tag.

Have a buddy that's been out there several times. Long shots, cold and windy but killed some nice ones.
