Where can you get a jaw bone aged asap? I have seen management areas say a deers age. Would they tell you the age if you showed up with a jaw bone?

Ill probably get fussed at about this but I have my doubts about jawbone aging. That is unless you have a record of the area it came from. I killed a deer last year that was guessed to be 2-3yo by the jawbone, I had pictures of him for four years previous when he was a 6pt, im pretty sure was his second rack. I know for a fact he was atleast 5yo. I do believe if you have a good record for your area you can get a pretty good estimate but there are factors that can cause a deers teeth to wear a little faster or slower. But hey, im a tree climber so what do I know. If the guys who have studied it for years says its right, theyre way more qualified than I am. But atleast consider what ive said.

Jwalker, you’re exactly right. Most deer will fall in what I call the typical toothwear category, and fit the age you think they are based on history and trailcams. There are others that simply don’t. Although I age hundreds of them each year I still don’t claim it to be a 100% accurate method. Heck I’d think it’s probably about 60-70% accurate on anything past 3 years old. There are way too many variables at play once they start reaching maturity, including genetics, diet, soil characteristics and chewing patterns.

I guess 3yo but I have not been trained at all, just looked at a few. Wanted to go first to see if I was wrong when some of the experts say.
