What’s your goal this deer season?

I made this same post for the past couple years and I always enjoy reading y’alls thoughts about your upcoming season.

Here are my goals in no particular order.

- Kill a deer on camera
- Kill a nice buck on public land
- Hunt with my kids
- Hunt with my dad
- Fill the freezer
- Hunt with some friends

Go as often as I can with my 4 year old.

Have fun with it I've kill so many I'm just not driven by it like some any more .

I may take my pistol more this time .

Put my 13 year old son on a quality buck...

For deer camp
1.Go as much as I can.
2.Build the biggest and best campfires and see how high I can get the flames
3. Burn a chord of wood between November 23 and February 10th in previous mentioned campfires
4. Cook/eat a lot of good meals around those campfires.
5. Drink a lot of Beer/whiskey/Bloody Marys around those campfires.
6. Perfect my Bloody Mary recipe
7. Smoke a few Cigars around those campfires.
8. Listen To as many jokes and stories as possible around those camp fires
9. Maybe even kill a deer

For public land.
1. Go explore some areas and try to get a deer

Be able to relax and enjoy hunting again. And try and take 3 bucks with my bow.

To have an opportunity to spend time in the woods, hopefully get to hunt with my kids a few times, now that they are grown, I really miss those days. Also, from a club standpoint, that I have prepared our place so that each of our members will take a trophy buck and that we will all live to see another season.

I’m probably not the best guy to tell you what cigars are good. But I like Perdermo , Arturo Fuentes, and Drew estates “Acid cigars” I don’t smoke them enough to tell you specific ones. I usually just go by the cigar shop and get a variety made by those 3 companies.

I wouldn’t say it messes it up. I’d say it adds to the fun.

I would like to kill one on public land before the baby comes next month.

Like others.....just enjoy myself being outdoors.

Try not to get too mad that it’s deer season and not turkey season!!!

Enjoy every moment I get to spend in the woods and not at work
Listen to all my buddies complain about the fact that hunting over corn hasn’t changed the number of good bucks they see😂😂😂

I always enjoy my time at camp. But I'm gonna catch some more crappie in the slough this winter after a morning hunt & do some cooking on my fire pit.

I am hoping to kill a mountable sized buck.....no specifics......just a "know it when I see it" thing. Never have to this point so we'll see what happens.

Last year my main goal was to kill a "good" buck.

Still a goal this year, but after realizing that my hunting was going to be different after having a baby...I think my main goals are to get out as much as I can, and when I DO get to go, enjoy it. Now obviously I will enjoy it the most by killing deer....

I didn't kill a thing last year, I missed the meat. I wouldn't mind taking just a doe or two.

1) 8pt
2) finally tag one with the flintlock
3) another bow kill.

Gonna be hard to top shaw but... my goals are
1. Help a new hunter get a deer

2. Get my first bow kill/ public land.

3. Tell perch he’s ghey

Get a dip and watch deer while not working. Same as year before.

Kill a decent/good buck with my bow on my in-laws place.

To actually hunt some this year.

1. Take my daughter on a few hunts and let her watch some deer.
2. Help as many hunters as I can enjoy the woods, see deer, kill deer, and show them what hunting is really all about.
3. Be on an Aldeer team that actually wins the contest. Maybe the random number generator will be good to me this year.
4. Hardest one here......120" or better buck on public land. They have all been 100-115 the last 4 years.
5. Video #1, 2, and 4.
6. Get a deer on camera like what Shaw just posted and kill him.

Kill moose in Alabama .
Kill moose in Indiana .
Kill another moose in Alabama and then donate my third buck back to chuckle !!

Kill the bigun I choked n missed last year which woulda been my best and try n get my 7yr old his first deer and take my 4yr old for his first time.

I've got a 16 month old and a 1 month old, So realistically, my expectations and goals are very low. I would like to kill a nice buck and get a doe early for the freezer, though.

The last couple of days me and the wife loaded the kids into the Pioneer and rode them around the property. My sons car seat fits perfectly in the middle of the front bench seat and my daughter loved riding around and seeing everything. I'm gonna try to do that a few more times before season. It was a blast.

This year myself and my best friend have a lease together with a house on it. Our boys are both 10 years old and they are best friends as well. This lease actually has really good deer on it and a lot of them. My goal is to get our boys out of the house once football season is over and have them down there at the hunting lease, have some campfires going with them playing in the front yard, grill going with football on the TV, have a deer hanging on the rack occasionally with both of them helping us skin and butcher it then once they're off to bed smoke a cigar and drink a glass of Balvenie 14 year Caribbean cask. Outside of that I haven't really thought of any goals.

Get so mad i feel the need to pitch the chairs out the shootin house

And resist the urge to shoot a buck on my birthday runnin at 1200 yards

Sounds like you're pretty set for youth season. Some folks would say you're starting them too late.

Soak it up man! One minute they are holding your hand, marveling at a deer track. Then, you turn around twice and they are away at college. You're doing it right!

1. Get my 8yo son his first bow kill (crossbow)
2. My 3yo daughter has put in that she wants to go hunting too. So take her as much as she wants
3. My 8yo boy has killed a couple nice 3yo's. See if I can get him on a mature buck this year. But he still gets one "any" buck.
4. I have not personally shot a buck to mount in several years now. (bloodied one up last year). Maybe shoot a stud for myself this year.
5. Hopefully my wife will want to hunt some this year. I would love for her to kill a mature buck too. Her last one was 12 years ago, right before we got married.
6. Shoot a hog with my .45.

1. Get all my projects on property completed before opening weekend of rifle and enjoy the rest of the season.
2. Hunt as much as possible with my kids
3. Hunt as much as possible with my dad

Have fun. Enjoy however much time I get to go.

I am mostly a duck and turkey hunter, so my deer hunting goals are probably a little different.
1: Keep the poachers and road hunters in check
2: Put my son on as many deer as he wants to shoot
3. Plant enough and big enough greenfields that they don't look like putting greens
4: Enjoy some time in the stand without worrying about bumping the safety

Hopefully get to hunt this year! I didn't get to last year!

- see more deer than I did last year (I've only "put eyes on" 3 deer the last 2 seasons combined...so that shouldn't be hard to do)

- both kids see a deer while hunting (they've seen deer on the side of the road and in Cades Cove, but never while hunting)

- put at least 1 in the freezer....don't even really if it's a buck or doe, other than buck = more meat

...I'm easy to please

I don't kill much anymore. I get more enjoyment from maintaining the land we have and seeing the happiness in others faces when they take one of the deer I helped grow. We've got a few guys inn our "club" that are aging, had polio and it 's tough for them to hunt. Passing on a 5 year old deer and sending them to that stand and them taking it......... It doesn't get any better than that.

Wow, I thought I had a bad few seasons..... you must be hunting north alabama for sure

Believe it or not, that was in Greene County, just north of the interstate...which I'm told on paper is supposed to be primo.

Since this is my first deer season in Alabama, I'll be hunting heavily pressured public land, and I hunt exclusively with a traditional muzzleloader, any deer in the freezer will exceed expectations.

To not shart my pants.

Hunt with my boys as much as possible. Still hunt hard and climb trees even though I am now 50. Every deer season is a gift. Memories are always made.

Go as much as I can, which will be just about every afternoon.
Do my best not to talk myself out of it, like I normally do and actually kill a doe for the freezer
Kill a 140+ buck or one with a drop tine

Shoot us a Big ol Nanny ron.... he still come....

I just can’t get excited enough to get my bow out and practice.

Will take my boys and hunt anytime they can.

Getting excited for deer season sure has changed over the years. Maybe it’s all the stupid crap rules and deer numbers steadily declining.

I have a buck on cam with a typical 4pt right side and 3 straight prongs on the left. I'd like to get him for a euro mount.

Slap a doe in the freezer with my bow
Track alot of deer with my dogs
Get my kids to go with me as much as I can

I've gone through this in the last 12 years. One afternoon I was in a shooting house reading a book, glanced up and saw a nice 7-point, watched it for a bit, shot it DRT with my rifle, went back to reading my book. I got more excited that day about squeaking in a couple of coyotes than shooting the buck.

I knew then it was time to do something different, so I focused on small game and getting back to learning some stuff about the woods. Stuff I took for granted or thought I knew, but didn't. It was fun. I've never been eaten up with "OMG, deer deer deer!!!" and never will be. They're just another critter to hunt. All the regulations and mandates and government bullshittery in the last 10-15 years has made it worse.

So, my advice would be to enjoy taking your boys and help them learn. See things through them and with them. You may regain the passion or it may be a life-shift for you. Either way, good luck this season.

Would love to see my wife get a good buck. Also if my son and step-son could get a deer this year that would be awesome too!

After my Pops passed I inherited his rifles a Winchester 30-30, and a Remington 700 30.06. I would like to kill a deer with these.

Would really like to kill a sho nuff goodun with my bow
Spending time with my wife and family at the camp
And get my dog a couple and enjoy watching him work tracking with the satisfaction that I trained him myself and my work has paid off

Take it as it comes, try not to turn it into work.

Man I need to post this on my wall. Seems like every year about December I start doing this.

I really miss the time just before deer season when I could grab my shotgun and a rod and hit the sloughs bordering our hunting club in the upper Escambia River swamp at daylight. Easing along catching more solid fall bass and crappie than I could count and shooting squirrels was so relaxing and so much fun. Wood ducks were on the menu too if the season was open. Hurricanes Ivan and Dennis ended all of that because 100% of the acorn producing oaks in the bottoms went down in those two storms. The bass are still there but not the squirrels and ducks. The bass aren't worth the effort because of the blowdowns and tangled thick jungle growth that took place after the hurricanes.

But my goal is to keep hunting those 5+ year old bucks.

What hunting use to be about and was a whole lot more fun. Would love to go back to those days or find a place I could still enjoy doing it at.

It can still be like that. Just have to find the right group of people. We have 6 people hunting on 300 acres but Really only 4/6 care about killing deer and we don’t really care that much. But the other 2 just come up there to get away from their wives and enjoy camp.

Expectations officially exceeded on 11/24/19. Can honestly say I shot every racked deer I saw this season...
Learned a lot about this property and feeling good about turkey season and next deer season.

At this point just to kill a deer this season because if I dont I think it'll be the first year that I've never killed a single deer. Every weekend that were our doe days it was in the 80's or storming so killing a doe for meat just never happened but our season doesn't go out til March 3rd so I got a little time left.

Do goals change as the year goes on?
Youth weekend: Spend time with my daughter and put her on one of our 2 shooter bucks.
Opening day: Spend time with my daughter, put her on a good buck.
December 15: Time with my daughter, see a good buck, lol!
January 1: Baby girl again, turn her loose.

She downed a nice 3 point that day. I let her track the blood trail. About 500 yds, with 2 back outs. At 14 years old, she really impressed me.

My goal going forward is to teach my daughter to be a better hunter than her dad.

Make it to turkey season

My goal for next year is not miss a deer! 2 years straight I've missed 3 good deer one mature one with bow and 2 3yr+ with rifle...granted I've killed good deer both years but it sucks when u don't get many opportunities and u blow one

My goal this year was to scout more than I hunt (public) and see deer consistently on public land. I saw way more deer on public than on the very crowded club I was in. I saw deer consistently and took my first public land racked deer. Goals were achieved thanks to all you guys willing to share videos and podcasts.

The goal was accomplished in both Illinois and Alabama this year......I might need to go play the lottery with this luck
