MY NECK AND MY BACK - 02/04/19 12:19 AM

I've been seeing this lil" feller chasing my yard deer around but couldn't get a good look at him until I checked this camera on a feeder out back. I feel bad for him, he ain't even got a tail ! I cant believe he is still alive with a wound like that. I bet it was a silver tip ....

Good god that’s crazy. I wouldn’t know whether to put him out of his misery or let him go because he’s one TUFF SOB

Re: MY NECK AND MY BACK - 02/04/19 12:32 AM

I don't think that a bullet wound. His spine would've too badly damaged from a bullet. I'll say that's a wound from another deer or a limb that got infected

Definitely shoot him. He may survive but with an open wound that large I would think an infection is very probable and would die a hard death.

Actually, I'll bet it is... I shot at a buck about 300yds on a powerline the weekend after New Years. All we ever found was a huge pile of brown hair. Honestly, the deer didn't react all that badly, just took off running like he was on fire. Last Saturday a boy killed that deer in almost the same spot crossing that powerline, the wound looks literally IDENTICAL to that, seriously the same size and depth wound. I don't know how the shock didn't at least momentarily stun/paralyze his spine.

I'd put him out of his misery.

Looks like the one I shot with a 180 gr 30.06 soft point but it died on the spot.

Re: MY NECK AND MY BACK - 02/04/19 02:37 AM

My money is on him surviving. Particularly if it gets cold again for a while.
Deer are some tough animals.

He’s one tough deer!

Re: MY NECK AND MY BACK - 02/04/19 02:49 AM

Could have been shot from above, close/high angle and almost shot completely over the deer, just missing the spine. That's what it looks like to me. Somebody needs to kill that poor feller.

Back slap for sure. I shot a doe 2 years ago and it made a similar wound. She just stood in place so I shot her again to finish her off.

Re: MY NECK AND MY BACK - 02/04/19 04:32 AM

He'll make it, unless you chose to put a better shot on him than the last guy did. People just don't understand how tough wild animals are. If he's chasing does around he's doing fine.

finally definitive proof that 6.5 cred isn't a good round for deer.

If you could spray him with with some of that purple ointment.

If he survives, his antlers will probably be deformed next season.

I had a doe duck my arrow a couple years ago laid the top of her back open. Killed her 2 months later and it looked bad like that. She was being trailed by a couple of yotes. She was eat up with infection.

Re: MY NECK AND MY BACK - 02/04/19 03:12 PM

If someone don't kill him, the yotes will.

He'll survive! They're tougher than most give them credit for.

This buck showed up on our place 2 years ago and from the first pic he was shedding velvet and he was killed opening weekend of season and was almost completely healed. He did still have one small pocket of puss in the old wound but had no issues and hair had almost completely covered the wound.
