High fence question - 02/09/18 01:52 AM

If it's illegal to trap deer in Alabama ,why is nothing done to people who build a fence and trap dozens of deer . I don't see how it's any different trapping deer . might be a stupid question but ...

It's not a stupid question, but I've never thought about it like that. Makes sense.

The high fence people will also say "they can jump that 8' fence if they really really wanted to". I've heard that several times. Truly hilarious. How many deer with ear tags have you seen roaming wild? I've seen zero.

Some can jump it. Seen it with my own two eyes several times.

I guess the free range in the big pen is accurate then.

The high fence places i've watched on youtube said they have to run out all the wild deer before putting up the fence. And then they purchase farm raised deer to breed and fill the land. Just what I heard.

Drive the deer out and then shoot everything that manages to hide. Most of them will disc the inside of the fence, all you have to do is wait a few days and check for tracks. Probably not going to get 100% of them out.

That's if they want to breed deer. If they just want to hunt them, they can put up a high fence and keep all the deer in.

Its one reason you see black tarps on some of the fences. Deer will not try to jump over an obstacle they cannot see beyond.

Yep and two strands of barbed wire along the top helps too.

black tarp is mostly to keep the deer out of sight of yer outlaw road riding rat ass neighbors...and keeping the owners out of prison for shooting said rat ass neighbors for shooting the deer.

Yep that's why they're always cover like said above or have a thick hedge or tree row blocking the line of sight. There is a high fence in Troy with elk and the whole roadside of the fence is covered by thick planted cedar trees.

That's the other reason for the tarps. I've also seen screens made of shrubs used along the roadways.

I'd say that statement right there sums up 99% of the reason the black tarps and tree screens are up. Is is true that a deer will not jump something that they cannot see beyond? I dont believe for a minute the tarps are up to prevent them from trying to jump out but I'd never really thought about "will a deer jump what they cannot see past."

I need some of that blackout plastic. Anyone know where to get it? Serious question here.

Stuff we use is woven UV resistant and will last. I just bought some for a job site that was the cheapest I've seen. Believe it or not Walmart had it 6' X 150' black for $88. Saw it on line and they shipped it to my local store for free where I picked it up.

I need to blackout in front of shooting houses for ingress/egress on deer at dark.

Re: High fence question - 02/09/18 07:10 PM

It would work fine for that. You can cut it to whatever length you need then fold the cut edge over and zip tie it back to itself. Mount it leaving it about a foot off the ground and unless you're 7 ft tall, you'd have the coverage you need. At the time I ordered it last week, It was available in both black or green.

It's the same windscreen type woven synthetic material that is used on most outfield fences that are chain link or otherwise see through..

I always thought it was to hide the identity of the losers hunting captive deer from people outside the fence. Kind of like the black boxes over the face in pictures.

Haha you are dead on with that assessment.

I believe that is what most of them do . All these lazy game wardens need to start putting heat on these high fence owners rather than shakingdown how dirt every weekend trying to catch him hunting over corn of writing tickets for not having a pen.
